Ordinarily I wouldn't comment on typos, misspellings, grammatical issues.

It is humorous in a post absolutely riddled with them where the speaker declares that "college is ove rated."

This post, as well as all posts made by me in the past 6 months, have been made by an iPhone.

Hey man, typos happen, especially on an iPhone. And this isn't an English class.

But don't blame autocorrect for deciding to omit words. Autocorrect only changes what you put in, it doesn't edit it out. Same thing about sentence breaks...

Yes, I plan for my kids because the reality is my kids may very well be average. I can accept that and plan for helping them succeed and pass down a successful model for average. So far, my eldest isnt average but I am responsible for bringing him into this world and because I'm able, I'm responsible to ensure that he passes these ideals to a future generation. I was afforded greater opportunity from my family and have succeeded in large part because being self sufficient was expected.. I will plan and expect that of my children.

IMO, a person should save for retirement to the max.

If you have money leftover, I guess 529/Coverdell are ok.

Some of this depends on your income level. It may disqualify you from certain financial aid if you have substantial college savings- because those funds are looked at as 100% belonging to the kid.

Of course, I have Coverdell and 529's for both kids, and transferred my GI bill to them.

I believe with the out of control costs, many will go to community college/local college, then transfer to wherever they can fulfill their degree requirements.

100% agree. We did not stray from retirement plan, we simply invest more. We're looking for ROGI, return on genetic investment

The saving account we get 1.5% on also is very interactive and fun, teaches kids about value of savings, why I'm such a huge proponent of local banks.

I don't have a family, but I'm putting money aside in various styles of tax efficient dividend paying stocks in a taxable account.

When college time for any possible kids, I will supplement my own income with the revenue stream of that accumulated pile to help pay for it, allowing me to save for both retirement and kids college in one.

Note that this is in addition to my standard retirement accounts.

i wont save a dime. instead i will teach my son how to be a business owner. simple as that. college is ove rated. to the extent you become a worker drone and work your entire life to eventually retire at 50-55 and cant do shite with all that retirement since your too old to enjoy it.

Solid Plan.

Absolutely. If I don't send them to college, where will they find doctors to marry?
