It seems to me that if Hud has another good year, and he jumps ship that UL has put itself in a position to become a stepping stone school for coaches. A nice foundation will be in place for an upwardly mobile assistant coach at a BCS school.
I have to think that Hud rides Broadway hard, and if he wins the Sun Belt this year, his stock may not get too much higher. Hell, the MSU job could be available next year.

Yep. Hud would be the first guy to leave ULL for a better job. That's a good thing. He proves that it can be done there. He's potentially the Houston Nutt or Dirk Koetter of ULL. Just wait until they get their Chris Petersen (seriously). I still think ULL has the most athletic potential of any school in the state not named LSU.

I'm surprised Hud has stayed this long, got to figure he'll be gone soon.
I'm biased but I'd put them right after Tulane.

Exactly they have a fan base and (it appears) an administration willing to make a commitment to athletics.
Tulane has the administration behind it but not local fan base of note. ULM has a fan base but the administration give zero fricks.
I have no clue about LaTech, but didn't their capital improvement plan in athletics die when Dooley left?

Tulane's administration has killed the local fan base. You're clearly uninformed on this issue.

That's why I'm hesitant to praise Tulane's overall AD.
But I looked at their roster last night, lots of skill position talent on the roster, though it's kind of young. Hopefully some of the young OL guys step up, like the kid from Zachary. I think Powell gives them the best chance to win long term, but I could see Montana getting the nod to start the season.

I'm not going to praise the athletic department yet either. But the potential is there, once they get Cowen/Dickson out of there in a year things could really start looking up.

I'm not trolling because I had no reason to believe there was enough interest. Hell, when I was in college most the ULL students cared more about LSU football than ULL.
Not even close to that anymore.
eta: I've always marveled on this board that LSU fans will make fun of UL and Tech for being hostile or not for LSU. I guess school pride is some bad kind of thing now. Perhaps it would be better if the students were more akin to their peers at ULM or Nicholls and root for LSU?

Nice city
Growing enrollment
Large talent pool of hot women
Solid college night life
Improving Academics
There's a lot to build on for the next coach to use in recruiting.

Nothing makes me laugh harder than when an LSU fan makes a comment like "There are more people wearing LSU shirts on campus than (insert school) shirts.
I honestly can't tell you the last time I saw an LSU shirt on Tech's campus.

But the school is willing to build a brand new stadium in uptown, even expending the political capital against the NIMBYs over there? No matter how much money the Yulmans and Glazers give, it takes a serious commitment from the administration to pull together the resources to make this happen.

After a decade of neglect and even worse, trying to get rid of D1 athletics with the review in 2003, they finally did something positive. The stadium may show commitment, but plenty of people think they'd be better off staying in the dome and just building an indoor practice facility.

HUD will be there for another two or three years. It's been rumored that if they can get his base salary up to a million that he would not leave. Right now he's at I believe $750 and with incentives, it's a little over a million. Also his wife loves Lafayette and really doesn't want to leave.
Posted on 8/6/13 at 1:43 pm to SaintCajun
If MSU or a big time job comes calling he will leave. People always assume after one big year a coach will leave but you really only have a handful of jobs open per year and out of those only 1-2 get in serious talks with your guy. Ole Miss was one of those in late 2011 and things didn't work out.

Don't get your hopes up on that.

I won't be surprised if he leaves but people thought he'd be gone after last season if we won another bowl game. He got a big raise and a shitload of facility improvements. If he keeps getting whatever he wants, he'll stay until the right job (MSU or another Big 12/SEC school) comes calling.
I have a feeling he wants to see the athletic facility to completion.

biggest thing that has helped UL athletics: Ray Authement retiring.
