It's actually rather disturbing that you think we can even hope to answer your question in any way, shape, or form without you even disclosing what card you have.

Even then it's iffy if we can answer.

Read FAQs for your card's rewards program, or even your cardholder agreement. That's what you are basically asking others to do for you and then come back and give you a summary.

My card allows me to spend it almost however I want in any way and they will reimburse me. It just needs to be catagorized by the merchant as being a travel position like airfare or lodging and they will reimburse.

Not all do that...for instance Capital one requires you to book your trip through their designated partner.

Capital One lets you use the points on any travel purchase, before or after the purchase. The caveat being you have to have enough points to cover the entire travel purchase, no partial redemptions.

In any event, I agree, the OP hasn't provided nearly enough information.
