Kayak fishing in the Marsh.

Hey OB, the past few weeks I've been going to the Grand Isle/Fourchon area and I'm remembering why I loved going there so much as a kid.
So I've decided to buy a kayak simply because I don't want to buy a new truck and a new boat all at once (I've got a TDi with a roof rack, so kayak is the best option right now). The problem is I've never known anyone that kayak fishes.
Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? I know I want a sit on top, rather than sit in. But other than that I'm pretty clueless.
Thanks fellas.

Get a Hobie if you want to fish, get a regular kayak if you want to paddle.

Look at the Jackson Cuda. Also might want to read through the pages of Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club site. Lots of good info there.

This is what hobie owners say to justify the butthurt they feel for overpaying and pussing out of a little effort.
Best yak for the money is a WS Ride 135. Comes unrigged for $900 but you can get on the water in a decent enough yak for just over $500 for an Ascend or similar model.

If I buy a kayak to fish I want to fish not spend 50% of the time paddling

Only complaint I have about my ascend is the seat. I have to get out and stand up every hour or so....

What is your budget?
Not sure, really. It's really more about size i'd say.
Guess that makes me sound like a woman huh?

So with the ascend you can stand? That's actually a feature I'm looking for.

Ride115/135 if you want to stand. I have a WS Commander 120 and can stand, but the Ride with scupper holes would be better for the salt/marsh.

So many options out there that will work- if you're serious about getting one, attend the local demo days and go to a kayak tournament if you want to see how everyone has their rides rigged up.
Of course, if you want a shortlist:
Wilderness Ride
Jackson Cuda or Big Tuna
Native Slayer
Diablo Adios or their new poly yak coming out
If you have money to burn:
Native Mariner
Hobie Outback
You can cartop any of those pretty easily- heaviest ones would be the Big Tuna and Mariner, but they're not too bad.
If you just fish the marsh and are not wanting to go out to the beach, I would look at the Native Ultimates as well. They aren't SOT's, but are damn near perfect for the inside marsh.

That would require buying a truck, a boat, a trailer, gas, oil, Louisiana special edition trailer inspection stickers etc
Hence, "If I buy a kayak"

Kayak with a trolling motor. Hell most of the Hobie guys I see trailer them. If I need to trailer it I'll just use a boat.

Oh no, I'm talking get out in the bank. The seat is just a thin pad. My arse starts to hurt after a bit.
Posted on 7/28/13 at 11:11 pm to LSURoss
Yeah my next yak will have one of those high low type seats.

Yeah I was looking at the ascend and it looks like regular boat seats fit it. But I would like to stand.
I shouldn't have been surprised, but I am and the amount of intricacies with this. Damn, I just wanted something that floats.

It's a great boat. Tracks well, has decent speed and its light enough to load on top of my jeep by myself.cthe seat might not bother you.
