I also love the smell of two stroke smoke when cranking up a boat. Brings back many memories. Four strokes are nice but are really heavy so if you have an older boat that can be a problem.

My yammy f250 runs like a fricking dream. Hole shot isn't as great as a 2 stroke, but I still get just as shallow as I would with a 2 stroke

2 strokes definitely are better at burning gas. And preventing you from talking to anyone else while running

yeah I'd love to know any real advantage you get from a 2 stroke over a 4

2 stroke is cheaper & lighter. 4 stroke is quieter

I have decided to hang on to my boat for another year but will likely be repowering it again in a few months. If you are in the market for a lightly used 250 pro xs *30 hrs*, let me know & I'll cut you one hell of a deal...

I get where a 2 stroke would appeal to tournament guys, but not your average weekend warrior

Owned an etec 225
Currently have a boat with an etec 175
Also have twin etec 200s

Absolutely love them. my engines before these were a Yamaha 4 stroke 115 and a salt water series 200. All great engines. I've never had to put an etec in the shop and I am hell on a motor.

Isn't the oil extremely expensive for the etec?

good to know, I've just been told by mechanics they don't hold up to harsh south la conditions, had a couple buddies that had them on bass boats and got rid of em bc they had nothing but problems, you probly take better care of your shite than they do though

re: Outboards: 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke

The oil is pretty expensive but after the first 10 hours or so on the engine it barely uses any. It also helps keep less wear and tear on the engine (so I'm told). My boat when filled up weights like 8500 lbs. I run my twin etecs at 4200 rpms, cruise at 38 mph. And get 3.5 mpg.
