Anyone got a solera? I ended up getting this 15 gallon barrel for $5 and was thinking that I could possibly turn it into a solera. I did some internetting and it seems like other people have had success with this size barrel. I don't really see myself using it more than a few times a year for regular brews, so this might be a better use of it.

Kegged a hefeweizen and racked an apple-cranberry cider earlier. Plan on brewing later this week... it's time for another batch of praline dubbel.

I've got a fantasy draft and then I'll be grabbing 30lbs of grain on the way home. I plan to brew two 7 gallon batches to put in the 15 gallon fermenter. I'm going to sour wort one 7 gallon batch to give the 1st pull a nice twang but it shouldn't be sour. That will also lower the pH of the solera to add another barrier to keep unwanted bugs at bay.
I will do the 1st pull of 6 gallons early, in about a month, and dry hop it with citra. Then I'll top it off with a batch of base brew and a starter built up from a JK Boxers Revenge. Then I won't do a pull for 6 months or so.
