Could a Ghostbusters remake work?

Blasphemous, I know, but I think it may could work. Really, "This is the End"s cast convinced me. Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Michael Cera, and Seth Rogan could do great as a team. Rogan I'm a bit iffy on for the lead and was thinking Jason Sudukis maybe for the lead, but I'd be open to a better casting call.
I know it sounds blasphemous on the surface, but as long as they don't try and make it a replica of the first and come up with some new origin, I think it could be great. I sure as frick think it's better than the Ghostbusters 3 concept.
So worst idea ever or do you think it could work being cleverly written?

No michael cera.
I was juggling between him and Jonah Hill, but then I figured the Ghostbusters would be too fat as a collective group, and Michael Cera excels at being a nerd trying to be somewhat cool, so I thought he was a good choice.

Seth Rogen's name actually was mentioned for Ghostbusters 3.

I'd see it. Like some other posters said, no Cera. Maybe throw Bill Hader in the mix.

Egon - Steve Carell
Venkman - Neil Patrick Harris
Ray - Jason Segal
Winston - Dule Hill
Just thinking of the roles and then sitcoms I like.

The only way it could is if its a third movie with a passing of the torch with the original cast. Actually, making it rated R ala 21 Jump Street might just work.

I dunno, it would be tough
the original was so genius.
I mean, I always laugh so hard when they throw out all those technical terms. They did a really good job with all the jargon and the equipment and stuff.
Ray mortgaging his house a 3rd time to pay for the work space

And you wonder why Hollywood keeps remaking shite

Maybe not the worst idea ever, but it's close. Especially with the cast you mentioned. Leave those guys to the stoner comedies.

I don't have as much of problem with comedies being remade as I do with other types of movies. Comedy changes alot more over time than drama does and it's a much more subjective art. Honestly, I'd love to see a remake of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" every 30 or so years in order to unite basically everyone in comedy of each era and sort of being a study on how comedy has evolved.
I know it may seem blasphemous, but taking it from a different comedic approach could work, and would certainly work better than the clusterfrick they've been proposing in killing off Bill Murray and having him come back as a ghost.

Meh. You'd just have a really hard time pulling it off. The original is a classic.

Go on...

I'm intrigued...

Hows about Ghostbusters 3 with that cast as the "new" ghostbusters. Lets be honest, Murray/Aykroyd/Ramis/Hudson wouldn't be all that much fun watching them run around as old guys chasing ghosts 25 years later. Why bother if thats what they are doing.
Cera works as the Egon/super smart guy. Seth Rogen as the Ray, Craig Robinson as Winston. I'd pay to see Danny McBride play a Venkman super smart poon hound.
That being said, I just dont see how you remake Ghostbusters . The cast made that movie.

Not a fan of Rogen in this potential hypothetical.

About the only worse idea is invading Russia in the winter. Do not remake Ghostbusters.
If you do, you'd have to use the Vince Vaughn/Will Ferrll "frat pack" and even then, see the first paragraph.
Do not remake Ghostbusters.

This. fricking don't mess with a classic.

Wouldn't work for me personally but I'm not a fan of this new age comedy group. I don't really care for Seth Rogen or any of the Judd Apatow work. Being vulgar to garner laughs doesn't work for me but I'm sure it would be successful.

Hasn't stopped Hollywood before, won't stop Hollywood in the future. I fully expect a remake of To Kill A Mockingbird with Ryan Gosling playing Atticus Finch or Blazing Saddles with Will Ferrell playing a white sheriff.

I know...but I still hold the belief that race relations would be solved if the entire country watched this movie.

Doesnt count here. Its a literary classic. You know how many adaptations have been made of the Three Musketeers? Robin Hood?

How would that work? Making the sheriff white defeats the purpose.
Blazin Saddles.
The inept governor of California(played by Steve Carell) discovers oil under the city of Compton. He conspires with a wealthy landowner in Compton (Alfonso Ribero) to start a wave of Racist KKK propaganda and attacks in an effort to drive the people of Compton to relocate. As a pathetic response to their cries for help, he sends a sheriff (Will Farrell) to take over the police dept. Once in town, he is joined by famous thug The Kunta Kid (Chris Rock). Together, they form an unlikely bond with the townspeople and expose the corruption.
Co-Starring Method Man, Dave Chapelle, Tatyana Ali, and Terry Crews as "Mingo".
