I you're talking about a completions field hand that would go offshore, it's not going to be a salary position. You're going to spend some time offshore and probably not have a set schedule. From what I've seen, it's not extremely labor intensive, although you do have to get out there and handle some equipment. The difficult part of the job is not knowing your schedule, being offshore for possibly 30 days, and having to be available 24 hours a day when you're out there. Also, it can be a little mentally taxing, because you're responsible for your companies equipment. One screw up could cost millions.

Money is good though. I know different companies have different pay structures, but it sounds like experienced hands who have a good reputation and are requested by the larger companies (Shell, Chevron, etc.) can make 200k+ a year. It's not a lifestyle that I would want though. And that's by no means guaranteed money.

Thanks for the responses...it's not for me...for a buddy, I'll have to get more information...but I was just looking for a ball park idea.

I think it's probably better if he went to college first..LOL
