re: Inspection stickers for boat trailers-increased enforcement???

Seen this on LA Sportsman
quote:

Difference in inspection sticker

The trailer's inspection sticker is merely stapled to your registration papers, rather than stuck to some part of your trailer. The paper protecting the sticky side is not removed, and is transparent enough for the sticker to be read through the paper.

The issuing inspection station is supposed to place a rubber-stamped 'X' on the sticker to call attention to it being a trailer inspection, and to prevent an unscrupulous person from later mounting it on the windshield of an automobile (that probably wouldn't pass inspection).

It's been the law for trailers as long as there has been a law for us to inspect our cars and trucks. Anybody whining about it is merely ignorant to the law.

There goes my theory of being able to display it. Seems like since it is not a wildlife violation, they would need some sort of reasonable suspicion before they shake you down for documents.

Let me get this straight

In addition to the trailer being registered .......we have to have the trailer inspected?

The govt has taxed everything but the actual fish that we catch. If they get there way they will do that too, in the form of catch shares.

It's simple math. $10 now or $250 later.

I don't like it anymore than you do.

I can derstand that this is a law that just hadn't really been enforced and now they are starting to enforce it. But how does wildlife and fisheries write a ticket for not having an inspection sticker that is needed to trailer your boat on the highway? It just seems like it's not their jurisdiction and this is just a new way that they've found to make revenue.

Yeah I really don't think they should be messing with traffic enforcement either. The law is under title 32 which is traffic.

Technically though they have the authority to enforce it as they are commissioned officers.

In my opinion this will go on until they write the wrong person.

Wildlife agents are pretty much supercops. They hold statewide commissions like other cops, but they can do just about anything without a search warrant if they suspect a game violation. They are frequently used by local LE to help with drug surveillance and the like. They also have one of the most dangerous LE jobs out there. I have much respect for the good ones. I still call em rabbit sheriff, possum cop, ect when I can.

That's my understanding. Like a vehicle. I guess our ATV's are next.

As to their authority, any time someone can go in your house and search your freezer- better believe they have it.

I remember my grandfather telling me story about a LDWF agent that had a hard on to screw with him. My grandfather hunted a lot. He didn't always follow the prescribed hunting seasons and laws though

He told me about one night he saw the agent had set up trying to spy on him and catch him hunting at night along a particular woodline.

He took a goat and tied a flashlight on it and set it loose. He said the agent chased that goat all night thinking it was a poacher.

He and my father swore it was a true story.

Laws been on books for years, never enforced. LDWF asked for some dedicated funding thru DOTD gas tax again and got shot down, so they are going to enforce it now.

I had a suspicion it may have been because of lack of funding.

It's definitely true. I know of two people who have been asked to show it.

Complete BS. I have respect for all LEO and almost always comply with their requests without question but they have to follow the constitution the same as all other LEO's. I have a childhood friend that is a GW and he's told me that most folks believe exactly as you do, and therefore don't question their requests for searches...

Game Warden's can give DUI's but State Troopers can't issue tickets for too many ducks, can they?
