My son and I are travelling to Michigan and Wisconsin in August for a golf and brewpub/brewery tour. Any suggestions for nice courses in that part of the world? I've got the beer part down-New Glarus,Founders, Goose Island in Chicago, Shorts.

Saw Erin Hills 2017 US Open. Checked the website. $200/round. Probably my last trip with my son before he gets married next year so money's no object. I'll bring lots of golf balls!

Michigan is chocked-full of courses. In addition to Golfer's list I would at Treetops Resort. It has about 5 courses in it. I played the Trent Jones Masterpiece course and would highly recommend it.

All the courses I listed are in the Golf Digest Top 100 public courses of 2013

Michigan is very underrated as a golf state, IMO.

Owned by SAB Miller. Looking for smaller micro-breweries. Beer geek here-not beer snob.

If you're looking for something cheaper than the Kohler courses, try Christmas Mountain in Wisconsin Dells and Trapper's Turn. Both are around $100 for 18 jokes and a cart. Trapper's Turn is a little nicer than Christmas.

Thanks. Both of my boys were born in Michigan-my son lived there 1 month before we moved away. I'll drive him by the hospital he was born in in Rochester Hills. It's great to be a dad.

Ha, I'm posting from my parents' house in Rochester Hills.

Arcadia Bluffs is apparently amazing, sort of Michigan's answer to Whistling Straits.
One of my buddies used to take a group to Treetops every Memorial Day weekend and loved it.
Grand Traverse Resort has three courses, including The Bear.
I have heard really good things about Forest Dunes, but it's in the middle of nowhere.

Make sure to drink a Bell's Oberon. The best summer beer in the country IMO. The brewery is near Kalamazoo, but I'm not sure how accessible it is to the public these days. Also, if you're a wine guy, they have a bunch of wineries near Traverse City now. Black Star farms is a good time.

Mistwood in Lake Ann, Manitou Passage in Cedar, The Lelanau Club at Bahle Farms in Suttons Bay. All in Michigan.

If you're going to Wisconsin, Kholer is the only place you need to go. It is absolutely AMAZING

Leinies is a good 200 miles from the south central part if the state where New Glarus is, probably not worth the trip. New Glarus is cool because there's other stuff to see and good food to eat. Check out Monroe too, there's a brewery there. They make a bunch of crappy beer but it's a fun tour. And they make great cheese around those parts too.
