As someone who is 1\4 Native American and whose grandmother is 100% Huron I have to say Wilbon is correct.

The Seminoles themselves said they like the name of FSU's mascot. The other universities did not have the support of the tribes they had the name of.

But in the end I agree names of Indian tribes should be ok as there is nothing racist about them. Just like if there is a team named the Zulu or Conquistadors or some other non Native group it would be ok.

Also the Braves and Cleveland Indians are ok because as before not a racist term.

But the Redskins is a racist slang term that should have died out in this day and age not glorified.
And until it is removed or until the NFL or NBA gets a team called the niggers, the MLB gets a team called the wetbacks, a team in any sport from California gets called the Japs or Chinks, and a team from Florida gets called the Kikes or the Nazis I will not drop this issue.

And seeing as nay sane person would agree those racist terms should never be used in this day and age Redskins should not either and needs to be changed. And it will sooner rather than later be changed. Well that or Snyder will be forced to move his team to a state full of racists. Judging by this board Louisiana is a good choice but unfortunately the Saints are already there. Perhaps Texas could get a third team.

The NCAA made ULM drop Indians as their mascot.

FSU never had to change their name because they gave great seats to the top Seminole chief and his buddies.

This is according to former LSU President John Lombardi

I'm German, Italian, Scotch Irish, and Native American and there is not one slur you can call me that I will be offended by. People need to get over themselves. The Cleveland Indians have an Indian for a mascot just as Dallas has a Cowboy. I don't hear cowboys up in arms about it.

Change the name. It's offensive.

I am 1/4 Native American as well. My grandmother is Cherokee. My dad's family, especially my grandmother and her brothers and family in NC...their favorite team is the REDSKINS. Go figure.

The way I look at it, if they can support it, so can I.

Other Native Americans are offended by it, and that to me is good enough reason to change it. It's not right to tell them to "Suck it Up" or "Stop being so Sensitive" when it is clearly understandable why they are offended by it.

UGA fan, opinion not relevant (jk).

The Indians logo is far more offensive than the Redskins logo or name imo, as it is a racist caricature of what white people in the early 1900s believed Native Americans looked like.
