Probably already addressed but...the strike-zone seemed very generous (Posted on 6/8/13 at 6:29 am)
ooops,,,beat me by two minutes. Great minds think alike.

Yea, the announcers kept saying what a consistent strike zone the ump had.....
Duh! When you have two aces like last night the zone is always pretty consistent.

It worked to both pitchers advantage

I thought they did a decent job compared too the rump rangers we had last weekend

it definitely looked outside. I don't watch a lot of baseball, so I was curious if the camera angle made the pitches appear further out than they actually were ... I should've watched where the catcher set-up and if he moved his mitt.
Blue was consistent about the call, except a couple of times on Nola. The crowd let him know each time.

Maybe so but last week it was the size of an index card. At least the ump was consistent. It also enhanced the "pitchers duel." Nola would have walked more batters if the zone was tight because he has a lot of run on his pitches.

Nola got some very low strikes called. I hated the strike zone but both pitchers benefitted.

With all-world pitchers on the mound, would have been nice to use the ump with the tightest strike zone and let the kids take some cuts.
However, now that we won, I wouldn't change a thing. Though I fear Eades/Glenn will have to deal with a much tighter window.
Other than the Ump being a tad generous, that crew was rock solid.

I thought the camera angle had a lot to do with it too. It seemed like the camera was positioned more to left field than normal. I noticed that from the first pitch. He had a wide zone but kept it that way all night.

possibly, but he worked the zone he was being given. Plus, many umps will give you a strike a hair outside the zone if they know that's the exact pitch you're trying to make...i.e. hook just off the corner on a 2 strike count.

This! The strike zone was wide, but not unusually so. It was unusually low, though. I found it a little inconsistently wide. There were four or five outside balls called strikes, especially the first strike on Ibarra in his last at-bat. That was the appearance that he went down on three called strikes. The second two were perfect pitches, but my jaw dropped when they called that first one a strike.

I thought the umps did a great job. Much better than the regional.

I think the guy had a really good zone. He called the high strike and low strike that IS IN THE ACTUAL STRIKE ZONE that many umps refuse to call.
I was very happy with how he called the game.

I think it was even. He wasn't bias.

What was funny about it too was, the color commentator would make the call assuming one way or the other. Then the ump would make the opposite call. So even they were fooled by some of the calls made.

When an ump gives a strike zone pounder like Nola the knees down pitches, he's almost unhittable, like he was last nite. He throws to contact & they were either pounding it into the ground or lofting easy fly balls to Raph. He gets hit when he has to throw his strikes up in the zone to compensate for a small srike zone down low. The outside pitches...meh. The ump was pretty consistent. Now, those base umps seemed to have blown one or two, both sides. Raph was safe at second on his steal attempt, Laird was out at first if I'm recalling that play right.

I thought the zone was fine. The pitches that Gray got off the outer half, Nola got down. I'd much rather it be big than small (that's what she said).

Aside from 2-3 bad calls, I think last night's ump did a great job. Especially considering what we had to contend with during regionals.
