Microsoft confirms 24 hour offline limit for Xbox One

quote:
With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.
Other notable clarifications -
quote:
Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.
quote:
Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

They should have had this page up on the day of the reveal. Would have removed a lot of discussion and bad PR.

Wow, that is not nearly long enough. I think Steam gives you 30 days, which actually seems a little too generous, though I'm not complaining.
I feel like 2 weeks would be fair, but 24 hours??

Well, this confirms my choice of console.

How does this work if you leave for a couple days? Im guessing you just have to let it connect right away when you get back?
Not that this matters much to me anyway because I'm hard wired in. But have they said what the point of that is? Is it so they can authenticate all your stuff?

Why does it need a connection every 24 hours?

So I can't just buy a system and play video games without being online?

I'm not reading through this entire tread, and I'm sure this has already been said a number of times, but there is absolutely no way that Sony "goes rogue" and doesn't implement roughly the exact same system. Microsoft might as well not make a next-gen console if they're alone in this.

Microsoft is requiring Xbox One owners to connect to the web at least once every 24 hours, or else your gaming privileges are cut-off
