I'm waiting for the day when a bat shite crazy player beats the frick out of an official over a horribly blown call or stupidity like this.

That ump is a self-righteous prick.
Wow.
Wow.

I wonder how managers and umps interact off the field? Do they just blowit off and say its part of the game or do they really old grudges?

Me thinks this would be a nonissue had the guy got on base or hit a HR instead of popping out. And yes, I know it probably changed the AB but still.
The player is the one who ran up to him and stuck his finger in his face. They both seem like douches.

Ump was a total tool.
That being said, the pitcher in this situation was Mariano Rivera. It's VERY unlikely that the AB would've ended in anything other than an out even if the correct call had been made.

I think the batter went around. So it really doesn't matter.

Somewhat related, but I hate when a ref/ump gets overly dramatic making a call. Say it's a close game in basketball and the ball deflected off a player's leg and goes out. The ref will jump on one foot 3 times while slapping him thigh, then lunge and point in the direction. Or when an ump about throws out his shoulder signaling a player is out.

First thing I'll say, first thing I thought was that it indeed was a foul ball. As did the commentators. When the camera went to the behind the plate view is when you saw it wasn't. But, cut the ump some slack. He's got it harder than the players. It's enough for him to be in control of the game at all times. But I'd like to see y'all call those calls with the pitches coming 95+. Now imagine it when literally everybody in the place hates you. I'm just saying, that's a hard job and he's the only one doing something every pitch of the game. We also don't know if there were things said prior to that at-bat. And frick it, once the game is over, it's over. And that means both parties, the umps and the players. He should've handled it better.

I've actually seen an umpire do this at the high school level. The game was over and he threw the coach out the game.

A friend of mine has been a HS ump for 40 years. Last spring a fastball hit him square in the mask. Catcher never got a mitt on it.
Him: Son, why didn't you catch that ball?
Catcher: Sorry, he crossed me up.
Him: Son, lemme tell ya something. You have only one purpose in life. And that's to make sure the pitch doesn't hit me.
