In a perfect world where we have a progressive manager, no. In the real world, Laird is the only reason for all of those game winning/tying pinch hits from Gattis.

Why can't Freddie just do the sensical thing and put Gattis in LF??? Heyward can play CF well enough and JUP can play RF
Do you think BJ would be in the lineup if he made 2 mil a yr rather than 15 mil?? I think not!!

Yep, this pretty much. If we didn't have Laird Gattis would simply be playing on Mac's day off and nothing else. Of course in Fredi's bizarro world Laird is still playing once a week on Julio's starts, so that's almost a wash.

He's not totally getting a pass, I was arguing sitting him against lefties for Gattis to be in LF in the other thread myself, at least till Jason gets himself straightened out.
But mainly Jason has been really unlucky this year to some extent, he's been smoking the ball right at people at times, and that will even out over the course of the season. He should realistically be hitting around the low .200s right now rather than .156 if it wasn't for poor BABIP luck. Still bad, but not as horrible as his numbers look.
BJ on the other hand has looked every bit as bad as his numbers show. So that's why he's getting no pass at all.

Heyward has 1 RBI against LHP this year. It's the end of May. I like him and he's still young but dang.
