My Trip to Destin Food Reviews

Went to Destin for the week and tested out a bunch of restaurants so I decided to give my review of each and recommendations for others.
The Back Porch - Good, decently priced seafood on the water. We went because of the location but the food was actually really good. We shared a bowl of gumbo and that was the least impressive part of the meal. I got the Angry Amberjack sandwich and was impressed. Very spicy and the sauce was great. Wife had the Fried Shrimp and Grouper and was not disappointed.
McGuire's Pub - Started off with $2 Margarita's, can't beat them for the price. Got the Potato Skins and Irish Boxty's. Both were awesome but the Boxty's were the choice of the table. I had the BBQ Cheddar Steak Burger, very large and good burger. No complaints from me but I've had better. Wife had fish and chips and wasn't impressed. My friend had the Strip and let me try a piece. We both agreed it was in the top 3 steaks of all time.
Dewey Destin's - Crab Dip was amazing. Blackened snapper was unreal. Wife had stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon and I was wanting to trade mine for hers. May have been the best meal we had.
Harbor Docks - Went here twice. 1st time was to try the sushi and it didn't disappoint. Can't exactly remember the rolls we got but between four people we didn't get anything we didn't like. 2nd round we tried the seafood. I tried the filet and was very disappointed. Steak was dry and not seasoned at all, baked potato was just bland. Wife had the grilled amberjack and again was disappointed. Fish was dry and not seasoned well. Mashed potatoes and grits were good though. Should have stuck with the sushi.
Louisiana Lagniappe - Probably the best meal of the trip. BBQ jumbo shrimp were excellent. Blackened scallops in the pineapple rum and butter sauce is one of the best entree's I've ever had. Wife had the Shrimp and Grits and again some of the best shrimp and grits we've ever eaten.
The Donut Hole - Pancakes were awesome, wife had the Gulf Coast Crabmeat Benedict and loved it. I'm not a huge eggs Benedict person but I wanted to eat more of it. Homemade biscuits were out of this world.
Hartell's Village Diner - Good burger, 50's diner atmosphere. Liked walking throughout the village afterwards. Chocolate shake was excellent.
790 on the Gulf - Zesty Tuna Dip was good but I've never had Tuna Dip before to compare it with. Wife had the fried crawfish salad and enjoyed it. I had the Mahi Mahi sandwich and loved it. Only went here because it was near our beach house and glad we went.
Also went to the Whale's Tail and thought the sandwiches/wraps we got were just ok. Hope somebody finds this useful.

If one goes the The Whale's Tail, get the crab legs special...a load of food at a good price. The other selections we had(last year) were average to poor.

Nice work.... thanks for the review

Thanks, we all had sandwiches and wraps. They weren't bad just nothing great. As I remember we had been drinking all morning and just wanted food.
I wish I had taken pictures of everything we ate.

That's great to hear. Those are our two favorites in town, and we will definitely be hitting them up in June after being away from Destin for a few years. I could eat Donut Hole for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - and actually I think we actually did that one time just for the heck of it.

No Shake's? That place rocks, a must try on your next visit.

Will keep that in mind next time we are there. Family is looking at buying a beach house to share and rent out.

I used to hit up a lot these places years ago but have been staying toward the 30A area so I've stopped going to Destin. Good to hear those places are still kicking.

Donut Hole brings back memories. Grandparents used to have a house in Santa Rosa and that was my favorite spot as a small kid.

I was a little hesitant getting a sandwich but I'm glad I did.
