The two biggest mistakes people make when learning to cast a fly rod is breaking their wrist, you have to keep it straight and 2nd is not waiting on the back cast. You have to learn to feel when that line straightens out before you make that forward cast.

Pause on the backstroke and practice practice practice in the yard getting a good rythm (SP).
