Has Ryan Theriot been signed by anyone? Is he still playing baseball?

No. He said he'd only keep playing if he could play every day. No one picked him up.

He basically unofficially retired. Had offers to be a utility guy, but he wanted a starting job.

Not with anyone currently. He's considering retiring and becoming an agent if the right fit doesn't come along

Remember going to a cubs game years back while in Chicago for a conference. The shortstop and 2nd baseman for the Cubs? Fontenot and Theriot.

He's done well for himself in his career and I don't think he was one to blow it all on stupid shite. A baseball season is a long time to be away from family, and probably feels even longer when all you do is sit in the dugout.

He's probably set financially, had a great career for his talent level. played for some storied franchises and won a couple of WS rings.
PS: that's not a shot at Theriot, just with all the talent to go through LSU baseball, he was not the one i'd have guessed would have that solid of a career.

Just curious. Thought I saw him at a gas station an hour or so ago. Then got me thinking it couldn't be him because he would be playing ball somewhere. But I guess it was him.

Seems like a counterproductive stance for him to take. If you desire a starting position, logic suggest you're more likely to secure one if you're already on a roster.
I can understand foregoing the money for more family time but its highly unlikely Ryan will ever demand as much money doing something else as he did playing baseball.

His major league career is a pretty normal one for most guys who make the show. He had a decent run, but he was probably headed to an extended stint in AAA, and I can totaly understand a guy not wanting to be a minor leaguer at that stage of his life. The minors are for young players and players who are baseball lifers.

He probably would rather go out on his own terms instead of bouncing around trying to keep a roster spot. His play has dropped off some in the last couple of years and its probably hard to stomach being a role player (or especially a minor leaguer) after being a starter for about 10 years. Great career but time to move on,happens to all of them.
