This but also heard Skip say the other day that the MLB ball is also wound tighter giving more pop off the bat.
would defeat the point of them lowering the pop of the bat

Posted by Choupique19 The MLB ball can be thrown harder. Every MLB game I watch the pitchers are throwing between 92-97 mph. Every college baseball game I watch the pitchers are throwing between 87-91 mph.
Not being an arse but this is a pretty crazy thought. The MLB ball is thrown harder bc of the person throwing it. Also these are younger kids in college thus they are still growing and learning which are two things that will increase speed, not the ball. There are guys in college that can run it up there as fast as some of the MLB guys. Not every college kid has major league stuff so the speed overall is slower. I played in both and the only thing that changed between college and pro was the off speed stuff/movement due to the low seams. The speed on my fastball never changed.

I don't think it would give it as much pop as before BBCOR.

I'm pretty sure that one flew over your heads.

Since most college stadiums are set on the edge of a school's campus, many of them face North. The natural wind patterns that bring cool air from the Canadian region tend to add resistance to the college pitcher's fastball, thus lowering it a few mph's.
Most MLB stadiums are in the heart of a major city, and thus most of them are facing South. The wind patterns that blow from the Canadian regions are now working with the MLB pitchers and thus add a few mph's to their fastballs.
I really don't think the ball is the issue.

LSU hitters still have enough power to hit it out. I'm pleased with the amount of homers hit this season compared to the previous few years. Moving the fences in would bring with it a decline in batting average and take away several extra base hits.
On a defensive note, Laird and Stevenson can already cover more ground than almost anyone in the country. If you move the fences in, we can get away with playing only two outfielders and play an extra infielder.
I'm kidding on that obviously. But I think changing to the MLB baseball will result in an adequate increase in power numbers.

Not a 6-7 mph difference that the poster I replied to was talking about. If I give you a college and a pro ball you aren't going to go out there and throw the college ball 80mph and then switch and throw the pro ball 86-87mph on the next pitch.

Yea bc people on this board know who I am and are impressed by what I did years ago. I mainly wanted to make sure you knew about it.

8.7% of 90mph is 7.8mph difference. Its physics.

MOving the fences in may help your hitters but it works against your pitchers. Moving them in maybe 5 feet may not change things too much but 10 or 15 feet would be huge. FWIW, I've heard other college coaches saying they are thinking of doing the same thing.

"Moving the fences in is a terrible idea. Switch to the MLB ball and be done with it."
We have an answer that is eminently reasonable. Of course, this means that it has little chance of being implemented.
