what are the best options for grass seeds/sod for an area in my yard where there is no grass? Had some trees removed last summer and now there is no grass at all and the ground is mainly just shitty hard dirt/sand. Are there types of grass seeds that are more prone to grow in infertile areas? I'm really just wanting to get some green in the area for now.

ETA: The area is roughly 25 feet X 12 feet

How about increasing the quality of the dirt first. What kind of grass in the rest of the yard?

yeah I'm probably going to throw a little bit of top soil or dirt down. You think I should try and till the area beforehand? I believe it is centipede but I'm not 100% sure.

Tilling it couldnt hurt. Then add good topsoil. Plant some seed. Water. Fertilize

If you till it, then you will still need to smooth it out, so i would find someone with a small tractor with a box and scrape it. I would also take a couple soil samples, you may not need to add soil. Seeding will work, but if you get a lot of rain it will wash some away and you may have to redo. I would put sod down, it will be much easier to get going.

I think we should make a requirement in all grass/garden/carpentry/plumbing questions that photographs must be included.

I agree with you for the most part, but those of us that do it for a living don't usually need pics,it's really not much to it, just a lot of work that will back your back sore..
