Microsoft is just trying to destroy the company that most of their sales are done through.
Yea people don't grasp this. MS won't kill Gamestop but they are trying to gradually push for the secondary market to be less of an issue going forward. This will give Gamestop time to adapt and not completely kill it off.
I guess people also missed in that article where it said despite the rumors that their primary money maker is used games it actually only accounted for 30% of their business last year.

Video games are an elastic product. Forcing people to have to pay full price for a game isn't going to automatically make them do it. I'm not poor, but there are plenty of games I would love to try out but will simply not buy until the used price comes down. Granted, I know Sony and MS miss out on the aftermarket profits, but I feel that cutting that out completely won't drive their sales all that much. But that could just be me.

I take it that they don't want to cut it out completely but that they want a little piece of the used game pie hence the fee.
It sucks that they kill off other aspects of past gaming experiences to do this like loaning out your game but there is really no other way for them to do it.
I just wonder if they will pocket 100% of the fee or if some of it will kick back to the devs too.

I agree.
on the whole people are not going to stop buying games.
Live will probably start to offer a rental service which will serve the same purpose as aftermarketing games. Maybe charge per day or have 1,3,5,7 day brackets something along those lines.
getting rid of gamestop serves a lot higher purpose than people realize, it cuts out a place for people to buy controllers and accessories which is where companies really make their money because the mark up is so high with these items.

If they keep the fee small, like $5, I think that will curb an all out demise of aftermarket games. Gamestop's trade in value compared to their re-sell price is pretty ridiculous, so they could take that hit no problem.

But like I said earlier, unless once you take the game I sold you and pay the fee it wipes the game from my account ( which it will most likely do) what's stopping us from buying one game and splitting the price plus fee
I'm sure they have thought of this and will wipe game once the fee is paid by someone else I'm just saying

This is implying they will be keeping up with each disc out there.
I think the fee would be to avoid getting nothing if your scenario happens.

I mean I hope your right. That means I'd never pay full price for a game. Think about how many people you could split CoD with
It's either what I said or a decently pricey "fee". IMO.

Hmm. Forgot about the automatic upload to the hard drive. I'm certain that the system would still require the disc to be in the drive, just like uploading games to the 360 HDD.
If you are talking about CoD MP, then that wouldn't work.

they said yesterday that its a 1 time install and dont need the disc anymore... Pretty sure

Oh. Well..............they'll definitely have to keep up with each individual disc if that's the case.

Yeah Im sure it will become more clear when E3 happens
This thing better be 499 or cheaper.

No we haven't. Every quote from the higher ups I have seen they have all said that the full details would be released later. The misinformation you have read has come from the Twitter feed of Xbox Support. It doesn't take a lot to figure out that they don't know as much as the executives.
That's not true at all.
Don Matrick said there was no always-on (right after the press conference ended) and then a few hours later, we learn from Phil Harrison that you have to connect once a day. That's just an example.

IGN
quote:
Confusion reigns in the wake of the Xbox One reveal yesterday. Cast an eye over the games news today, and there are conflicting reports about everything from shared accounts to pre-owned to the nature of the console’s online requirement. The event itself was boldly top-line – here’s what it looks like, here’s what it does, here’s how it changes things – but in attempting to present a simple message, so much crucial information was glossed over that total confusion and speculation have sprung up like weeds in the cracks in our knowledge. The Xbox One is supposed to be an easy-to-understand, all-in-one solution – but currently Microsoft’s messaging is anything but unified.
quote:
On the subject of the console’s internet requirement, the information wasn’t vague so much as completely contradictory. Don Mattrick came out and said it wasn’t always-online – but then an FAQ turned up on the Xbox website turned up with the spectacularly conflicted phrasing “it does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet.”
quote:
You do not require an always-on connection to be able to use Xbox One," said Xbox’s UK marketing director. "It is clearly designed to be connected to the Internet, and hopefully from what you've just seen you realize some of the benefits that brings. But if your Internet connection drops, you will still be able to play games, still be able to watch Blu-ray movies, and still be able to watch live TV.” But then it emerged that the console will still need to connect to go online at least once every 24 hours, according to another Microsoft exec Phil Harrison, and possibly more often – we still have no clear idea how this works.
quote:
There are two conclusions to be drawn from this: either Microsoft’s various executives don’t know what the deal is with the internet connection requirement, or they couldn’t get the message straight in time for yesterday, settling on vagueness instead of reassurance. Both would be massively uncharacteristic for a company as thoroughly marketing-trained as Microsoft. Either way, the fact that Mattrick and co spent the entire conference talking about other things suggests that they were rather hoping nobody would mention it – not an effective strategy when you’re trying to integrate something that’s clearly going to be unpopular.

Connecting once per day isn't always on now is it?
Just to help you out I have included synonyms of always for you.
