I like a spro frog on Toledo, with a heavy action rod and 50 lb braid, I'll try to cast it way behind buck brush and work it out slowly, it's fun horsing them through all that crap

I won't be anywhere near any brush. Do the fish get in that newish yard grass looking shite?

Hell yes
I always throw it on braid, but to each their own. Throw it on a twist lock 5/0 hook, cast and retrieve. Play with it a bit and the bass will tell you how fast or slow to crank. Like others said, when you get a strike wait for the bass to take it under and turn before you set the hook, otherwise watch out for flying frogs, actually just watch out anyway, frickers have a habit of coming back at you.

The ribbits are better looking, but I have always had better luck on the zoom horny toads.

I have some but haven't really thrown them to give them a fair chance. Lots of confidence in the ribbit. Didn't you fish the splash over the weekend?
Posted on 5/21/13 at 1:05 pm to laangler21
Yup. Never going back without my own boat.

When it is really calm, I do better on the Zoom Horney Toad as it is a subtler action. With a little chop, I prefer the ribit.

No. Caught fish all day but small fish. Then we went back to the same spot sunday for more small fish I guess. I was not happy. Had a blast at the resort though. Should have brought my little aluminum triton with 40hp and winged it.

That makes sense coco because I prefer to throw top water when its calm.

I have always slowed the retrieve way down and "waked" the frog, will have to try the horney toad next time.
ETA: You don't need a boat, just a better boat captain.

Posted on 5/21/13 at 1:35 pm to FelicianaTigerfan
I caught a few bass on top water the other day and 15 bream on a popper yesterday on a fly rod

Nothing better than watching a bass knock a zara spook 4-5 feet into the air and the busting it again.
