In tennis, the importance of a tournament is indicated by the amount of rankings points a player gets if he wins the tournament. Majors are obviously the most important, and the winner of a major gets 2,000 points. Masters are right under Majors in terms of importance. There are 9 of them per year, and the winner of each event gets 1,000 points.
