This Draft . . . Our Pick and the Trade

We're killing time on the board until something meaningful happens, so what the hell, I've been thinking.
Let's assume we luck out and end up with somewhere 1 through 3. That's theoretically possible, right? In my opinion, McLemore, Burke, Len (yes, Len, you got a problem with it?), Noel (maybe, but I'm not a huge fan), Shabazz (same as Noel), Porter or Oladipo would likely help our roster. Although, none of them are a lock as a starter, if you think about it.
So, honestly, isn't trading the pick (I know it's been discussed a little bit here) a really decent option? Is there a deal out there that can work and help us at SF, PG or even C? Or maybe picks in the first round is a better option than gambling on 1 through 3.
Realistically, for lots of reasons, this team needs to make significant progress this coming season. I'm ready to get through this hot, humid summer and into the fall. Watch the Saints extract revenge and anticipate the Pelicans' inaugural season.

Well, no doubt, a well-behaved, motivated Cousins would give us a lot of options. Let's do it. You want me to make the call or will you do it.

What are we trading for? Next year first round? Id take that.

Ive been pretty vocal about trading the pick for an already established stater. I've got a couple calls in already to Dell and Monty. Needless to say, they haven't returned any of my calls.

they have so much money to spend and i am sure Benson will spend it.
I think they will keep the pick and draft highest rated player on their board.
This is the new Hornets ... no more trading the pick for CASH !

Dude, they won't return your call unless you use one of the back lines. Shoot me a PM and I'll give it to you.

Nope.

If the Pels dont think a pick 1-3 will help, I dont know who is going to deal a proven starter for it. Maybe the Wolves- who will struggle to pay Love, Rubio, and Pekovic big $- but they are also in a win now mode with Love eyeing his opt out clause. Perhaps Lopez, top 3 pick (McLemore) for Pekovic, their 2nd (#52) and their 2014 1st. And thats probably too good for NO.
I'd rather see them keep their pick and try to buy picks from Chicago, LAC, or maybe ATL if they want to clear cap holds for a Paul/Howard run. They can use these rookie deals to make a play for a vet a la Houston.

Well, the scary thing and the good thing is that there are so many possibilities this offseason for the Pelicans. Cap space, available roster spots, high draft pick . . . I just hope we don't frick it up.

I'm down with this.
My whole trade the pick thing is I just don't see any of these guys, save Burke?, being other than a bench player. We can't wait for players to develop.

Explain this a lil better for me.

This is how i feel. I think there are numerous possibilities to make our team better given the right moves/picks, but there are also numerous ways that we could get worse with the wrong moves/picks.

The Pelicans franchise player is 20-years-old yet they can't wait for players to develop?

Please.
The NBA confuses me in this regard.

You can buy picks from teams that are up against the luxury tax.

I think what he means . . . or at least what I mean . . . is that we can't have one or two more seasons of sub-30 wins. Not tolerable.

Well wise guy.(pun intended). What this team is lacking is veterans who can play and lead. We are already one of the youngest teams in the league. Why draft another 19 year old and sit him on your bench and wait for him to develop?
If this were a loaded top end draft, then yes. But this isn't that kind of draft.
We need players to contribute now.

Because this team is not competing for another couple of years (battling for a top 4 seed)

I hate the if we can't win title finish last philosophy though. Only because I'm a dumbass did I renew this year. Last years effort a lot of nights almost made me quit on season tix. If we look like this year again I'm out.

This is the difference between season ticket holders and the people who don't have tickets.
Ticket holders (and the front office, more than likely)- "We want a winning product ASAP."
Non ticket holders- "We want to build a gradual contender over x amount of years."
I'd love to know what NBA GM and coach are afforded the luxury of taking their time and building a team over 3 or 4 years. Even most playoff teams who exit after the 1st round every year have personnel on the hot seat.
