you think so? The guy they were willing to deal half their team for without him signing an extension? NOW they're too scared to sign him? Seems legit....
The guy they were trying to get before signing Asik? Or after Morey built a solid, young team who exceeded expections?
Sure you could sign and trade for Howard. But you aren't just sending TRob. You would be sending Asik and Montejunas as well

Asik+TRob+Picks for S&T Josh Smith, for example.

As a Rockets fan, I do not want Howard anywhere around this team. Aside from playing an up-tempo style very effectively, the young players on the Rockets look like they genuinely enjoy playing the game. They have fun out there. From what I have seen from Howard, that has never been the case. He seems to be a drain on moral and a cancer in the locker room. And aside from his attitude, his ability seems to be fading.
I would much rather keep Asik and make a play at Josh Smith in free agency. Putting him at the 4 would fit perfectly into what we like to do. Howard would force us to redefine our identity, and I don't trust that redefinition to be beneficial.
A starting 5 of Beverly, Harden, Parsons, Smith, and Asik will be extremely competitive in the West. I trust that lineup more than any with Howard.

Maybe. Or maybe Morey is content with a core of Harden, Parsons, and Asik. Lin becomes expendable in a pursuit of CP3, who would be a better "get" than Howard IMO. He also has Montejunas, Terrence Jones and TRob to plug and play at the 4.

Dwight would be a DISASTER in Dallas

Thank the fricking heavens you're not in charge of any basketball team, specifically my home town team. Josh smith is awful. He will be a salary cap albatross 2nd year into his deal. Question is: what shite for brains team is going to be stupid enough to do it? You want josh smith but think Dwight Howard is a bad move? Brilliant.
Howard has made mistakes in the last 2 years. He's behaved poorly. But he's a shoe in for "3rd best player in the NBA" the second he gets his mind right and starts playing like guy who won 3 consecutive DPOY awards. I think when he gets locked in somewhere long term, he will go back to ring the best center in the game. And make no mistake, he is asik, but a better rebounder, rim protector, AND scorer.

Yep, you lost some credibility here.

Only on the MSB can Dwight go from the only dominant big man in the NBA to, what did someone call him one time?......oh yeah, a role player.

Good. The biggest troll on this board disagrees with me. I knew I was right

I agree about Howard. I just dont think Morey brings him in at the expense of Asik.
The Rockets should bring in CP3,DWest, and Belinelli as FAs.
CP3/Lin
Harden/Belinelli
Parsons/Delfino
DWest/Montejunas/Terrence Jones
Asik/Smith
NOLA West

I love Patrick Beverley. Dude plays like he's never been given anything and fights for every inch. Love it.
I've long assumed west stays in Indy.
CP3 is a complete pipe dream.

Josh Smith is far from awful. Perhaps only in the context of being the "best player" on any given team, but only then. But put into the 4 in Houston, he can be allowed to be a secondary (or even tertiary) option, rather than being the go to guy. We would basically ask him to go out there and out-athlete every power forward he is matched against. Run the floor, spread the D, make the occasional jumper, and let Harden facilitate our team. All of those are well within his skill set.
You think Howard is the 3rd best player in the NBA? And I'm the idiot? Even if Howard gets his mind right, his body is not. He has taken a beating being so physical over the years, and I do not believe that he can ever make it through a full season again.
And I know that Howard is better than Asik. No disagreement there. But Asik costs us roughly 8 mil of cap each season. Howard is guaranteed to get a max contract. Howard is not so much better than Asik that he warrants that much extra salary.
Maybe if Howard has both his mind and body right, then it could be worth it. But I doubt he ever fixes either of those issues. Odds he fixes both of them is very minimal. I'll pass so long as we have a more cost-effective option. Fortunately, we do.

He was dealing with injuries this year and still put up 17/12.5 + 2.5bpg. If his back gets marginally better, yeah, he's definitely in the 3rd best player discussion. But I would probably go after CP if I were the Rockets and had the choice of the two.
ETA: And he doesn't NEED "to get his mind right". He was a headcase in Orlando and was the best C in the NBA.
Also, I'm pretty sure that they could find someone to take on Lin's deal in exchange for getting Asik, which would put them within reach of getting CP and Howard.

You don't really understand the concept of salary cap, do you?

But if D12 comes to houston, it will be by a sign and trade. Dwight will demand the extra money, LAL will get some younger assets- looking at you, Thomas Robinson
I wish there was a way for the Lakers to just straight up lose Howard for nothing.

If anyone can teach Howard low post scoring it is mchale and Hakeem
Smith shoots too much to play with harden and chandler
Beverly is the perfect compliment to a ball handling 2G like harden, cp3 hogs the ball too much for the rockets. Plus he wants to walk it up and Houston wants to run, same problem with Blake and cp3
I don't like Howard but I can see where he would fit well with Houston's four out sets, similar to Orlando

not sure how I feel about the D-train in D-town
Dallas would still need a point guard, and with Mayo gone (likely), will need another swingman.
I'd much rather CP3 come to Dallas and run the pick and roll with Dirk and then sign a veteran center

It seems like Dallas has been striking out in free agency a lot lately.
