Haven't ever bought any of these before. Want to grab a few for hurricane season and the cheapest I'm seeing is about $20. That about right? Seems high for a plastic can

15-20 is about right now, it is a ripoff but it is what it is.

Check SAMs and tractor supply

They're not cheap. Just wait until you try to use one of these new ones with the federally mandated safety spout. They are nearly impossible to use without spilling gas everywhere.

If you have an old one, hang on to it.

This is one of the most annoying things in the world. Anyone know where to find the old regular spouts?

I have one old one and one new one. I tried to switch the spout and of course those bastards changed the size so they aren't interchangeable.

I've said this in other threads but my solution is stop using the shitty plastic ones. Throw them away and buy the metal ones. They won't make your garage smell like gas, they won't spill gas everywhere they are much safer and they will last for 10-20 years.

The downside is they can rust although it is unlikely. They are also expensive but you won't be replacing them every few years.

Drill a hole on the top where the old ones used to have a vent. Put a hex screw in hole when storing, unscrew to vent when pouring. 10x better flow.

Getting a E-Gen set up at my new place in Alaska, I just went through this getting a bunch of new cans. Here is what I did... LINK

I can modify a can in less than 2 minutes now.

Alternatively, go to TSC and get an EZ-Pour from Tractor Supply Co.. Though kind of pricey.

I use a drywall screw. Very small hole.

Local hardware stores usually carry them but you can order them online. Eagle brand is what I order but there are other ones as well. I have 3 5 gal and 2 1 gal I keep in my car trunks. I also ordered a yellow one for fathers day last year for my dads tractor diesel.

I really love these cans and I am ordering 2 more 5 gal. Eagle are made is the US also.

Thank you. Good information in this thread.

I've really had issues with this since I bought a fishing boat and use ethanol free fuel. I have to go a pretty good ways to get it and my gas cans are a PITA. I'll buy a few and replace them.

Don't you miss the good old days when everything wasn't a big pain in the arse because of government regulation.

ETA: I went into youtube and saw a few videos on modifying your new government approved gas can. They suggested that you buy a vent cap on ebay. I just ordered four of them. You drill a 1/2" hole and just pop in. They hold well, don't leak and make the cans actually work. You can also remove the safety pour spouts and under them is a regular pour spout. You just need to add a lid on the end that you can get at an auto parts store.

Dang, those look to be identical.

I was so fed up with the plastic cans I probably overpaid.
They work great, though. No smell at all.
