Hippo is actually one of the most dangerous animals in Africa.

"I agree. I see pictures of friends killing giraffe and zebra - who wants to hunt friendly animals you can't eat?"

You think zebras are friendly? Haven't spent much time around wild donkeys, I take it.

Hippos are by far the most dangerous animal in Africa. They kill more people than any other except the mosquito.

here we go with people saying all these wild animals are friendly and cant shoot a friendly animal.lol i dont know 1 friendly wild animal.

our ancestors hunted all the animals on the land period. i choose to hunt like my ancestors. . with a bow at that. thats the real skill in hunting dangerous animals.

I agree that they are dangerous but just don't have a desire to hunt African animals I guess. Don't see the fun in shooting a bear digging in a garbage can either. I'm old fashioned, give me a regular ole whitetail deer.

My dad and his friend went hunting recently in africa and killed an elephant. You wouldn't believe how happy the locals were when they heard someone killed an elephant. Every family got plenty of elephant meat.

to hunt a lion is not easy. we all hunt deer because we grow up around it and to hunt something so different is a honor to me. think to yourself how many lions have actually been killed by someone you know? im sure not many people even know someone that has conquered such a feat.

i don't kill any elk because they don't exist in louisiana. doesn't make it a "feat" just because a lot of people don't do it that i know of.

everyone that hunts (myself included) uses a lot of help from modern technology. back in the day there wasn't any satellite imagery, there weren't peep sights, or carbon arrows, or deer cameras, or food plots. hunting can be as hard as you want it to be, or as easy. but no one "hunts like their ancestors" unless they are hunting with traditional bows and wooden arrows on non fenced land without maps. i'm sure at times people in the past baited deer. and they damned well weren't looking for trophy bucks either.

my impression (and apparently a lot of people's on this board) is that to kill a lion, you bring a 7-mag and $30,000 and some guide brings you to a (previously) unhunted, unsuspecting lion to shoot from a very safe distance. surely once in a while there is a close call or even a serious injury/death, but for the most part it is pretty safe and doesn't require a lot of skill, just a lot of money. i've never done it though so i would love to hear someone tell me that i'm wrong and it takes a lot of skill to kill a lion. but until someone with personal knowledge of it does, i'm going to remain skeptical.

What amazes me is the closing speed on those SOBs. Good lawd they fast.
Hunting something that can and does want to kill you definitely ups the ante. Like the cougar that has been killing everyones pets or the lion that has eaten five tribesmen

Again, while hunting baited or contained lions happens often in Africa, not all African hunts are the same. There are still ethical sportsman who travel for the thrill and challenge of the hunt, who have a minimal party and can spend several days tracking. It still can be very dangerous and hunters often go home empty handed. Not every African hunter shows up, blast some baited lion and goes home.

Giraffe, now that's one dangerous critter. Hunt them here and get your "trophy"

not to mention its cost a shitload of money. but i know a guy that has went to africa and shot over 100 animals and has about 10 world records in his name. he does it for the love of hunting nothing else

I will never understand this.

Most people do it to have it mounted. That's it. Dead lion for bragging and a conversation piece. Seems like a huge waste.

I have a buddy who's dad paid for them to go to South Africa after he graduated college and he killed a lion. They breed them there specifically to hunt and depending on the size of the main that will cost you. His was like $35,000 just for the hunting Liscense and he got one with a medium sized main
