New Car help ... am I making a decent deal?

Honda Pilot, EX-L, no navigation but has everything else that I need (ok that I want) sunroof, heated leather front seats, auto rear lift gate, back up camera (yeah don't need that).
Sticker is $35750; had some "extra" added things -- the ones I remember are nitrogen in the tires (yeah, whatever -- I'm a girl and had never heard of htat) and leather protectant. These things were added to = $36836.
They're selling it for $31,300 ... I'm seeing invoice price on Truecar.com $31216 but doesn't take into account the "extra $1500" worth of stuff.
Husband talked to manager when sales guy got him -- asked about the "addons" that we odn't want -- basically manager said it is what it is. $31,300 or leave.
We left ... had to see if I'm getting an ok deal!

Four wheel drive? It never hurts to leave if you are not happy. Best negotiating tool is to leave and go to a different dealership. I've had dealers call me with the right number as I'm driving away. . There is more than one Honda dealer, and plenty of competitors.
I check Edmonds.com and find their price, then look up the holdback and subtract that from the invoice price as well as dealer and manufacturer incentives. If you are buying a car that just came out or something exotic, you may have to pay more.
We just bought a new Accord in April and we like it okay. I got it for the lowest price I've seen online. Having some transmission issues though and may have to bring it back.

No, not 4wd ... I was happy. Just wanted to check out some of the resources that I knew were here on the money board.
I flat out told them I love the car and I was going home to check out the deal ... there are 3 in the color that I want.
From what I'm seeing it's a good deal but idk.
I don't like this!

Sounds like you are being cautious.
Check edmunds and see what they say about the Pilot. You can find average transaction prices and invoice prices.
No point in being in a hurry.

Thanks. We are try be cautious ... it's been a long time since we had to buy a new car. Our last vehicle purchase for me was my inlaws Expedition; my husbands was a purchase from a friend who owns a car dealership here in town. He didn't get the best deal. lol

May I ask which dealer, if local? I had good luck playing the dealers against each other. It was like pulling teeth at some point (a lot more to this story since I wanted a very specific combo), but it all worked out. Walking away is always the best thing to do. Waiting til closer to the end of month helps as well. They tend to get desperate.
I got my car for just below invoice, and also found out later it had similar "extras" as yours that were not included in negotiation. Your deal sounds pretty good, assuming no incentives are being applied.
I4 or V6? I just picked up an EX-L Nav V6 Sedan in March. No issues. Also got a good price (& trade) but feel like I walked through hell to get it.

Somewhat off topic. We will soon be in the market for a vehicle within the next year. Did you drive only the Pilot or some others like the 4 Runner? What made you choose the Pilot over the others in that price range? Thanks.
I would try to negotiate out those extra things. If you make a stink about it, they will drop those to make the deal. Use this thread to help you out: LINK

tigerME we shopped in New Iberia. Looked at the online sites for Lafayette and BR dealers, even Lake Charles and Alex --- no price listings other than the sticker that we say today.
No incentives other than .9% financing ... thinking about that instead of paying cash.
I don't know ... the 2014 looks like it may not be quite as boxy ... ugh.

Superstar, we want more than seating for 5 so we didn't drive 4Runners but did drive the Highlander. It actually I thought was a tad smoother/quieter but the size inside for me was no comparison.
The middle row of the Pilot was COMFORTABLE for my husband on one side, me in the middle and sales guy on the right side (bless his heart I wouldn't let him get out of the car after the test drive without seeing how many adults could sit comfortably) and it was enough room to NOT be squished. The 2 men are average size, me on the petite side but it gave me an idea of spacing/comfort with 3 adults. Even the back row fit myself and myhusband very comfortably.
I just don't like making these big money decisions ... hell, I haven't bought a new washer/dryer in 20 years .. ... I keep fixing the one I have that is wonderful -- doesn't need much very often anyway. And a vacuum cleaner??? Yeah, I stressed about that also -- for 2 months. I'm pitiful I know.

Why do you want heated seats in Louisiana?

And nitrogen in the tires is totally unnecessary. That said, the price sounds fine considering it is a new vehicle.

Cause I tend to be cold natured ... and although our winters are COLD they're cold enough for me! Really 50 and I'm cold.

Sorry, I should have said the Highlander, don't know why I said 4Runner. Did you look at any other brands such as the Nissan Pathfinder? We are looking at all of these models currently. The Pilot is at the top of the list currently, but we haven't driven any yet. We have two kids right now and one on the way so we will need something bigger soon. The wife has told me that she won't drive a minivan.

We got the I-4 with the CVT. excellent mileage for a bigger sedan. We average around 37 and have gotten up to 40 mpg on one tank. We love the backup camera. It's the one gimmicky option that I thought was awesome. Of the other cars, the Malibu, Fusion, and Sonata were the most impressive. The Camry and Altima were kind of disappointing. We thought the Accord was the best option after driving all of them over the course of a couple of months.
I negotiated online before I even saw the car. When I got the price I wanted, I gave them the option to offer me $$ on a trade. They tried to low ball me so I walked the the Chevy dealer next door and test drive a Malibu (surprisingly good but a little cramped). The Honda dealer called me with the numbers I wanted and I bought that day. Whole process took about 3 hours.
Unfortunately, we've out less than 3,000 miles on it and it now surges and bucks at parking lot speeds. Lots of problems reported online that I wish I had known about 6 weeks ago. Possibly transmission related.
Also the TPMS seems to indicate that we have a flat regardless of how much air is in the tires.
Not major issues (at least the TPMS) but this is my first Honda and I'm not very impressed with the durability so far. The gas mileage is amazing though.

dewster we didn't drive Pathfinders and the Nissan place is tied with the Honda place where we were today. Husband for some reason doesn't want Nissan .. even told him it was built on an Infiniti J frame (from what I read on another car buying thread).

I bought a 2013 GMC Terrain from Gerry Lane. At first I went to Capital hoping to score on 2012. They had everything I wanted but the guy was a jerk and wouldn't work with me. I went to Gerry Lane vented got a model year newer with a lot more add ons than I ever wanted that literally just came off the truck for $1,000 more. I told them to throw in an extra key b/c it was one the damn $150 keys and they'd have a deal. That was there first offer and I knew they wanted to make the sale I countered with key and we agreed. Sometimes you pay more for a better deal. Weight your options and know what your getting. The comes a time when you need to know you are getting a good deal. You'll know it. You've priced everything done homework asked around. You'll be fine.

Get something better.
Dealer either wants the business or doesn't.

I bought a Pathfinder Platinum Premium for my wife about 6 weeks ago. She loves it.
My only "complaint" is that the gas mileage she is getting is about 2 MPG less than what the sticker claims in the city.
Even has heated and cooled seats too!

Will any thoughts on the "Deal" I'd be getting if we buy this?
