There was a book I read where they put a small recess in a log and put three angled nails in the recess and dropped thr bait in the bottom. The recess was just large enough for thr coon to get his hand in but not so that when he grabbed the bait he could pull it out.

I often wondered if it would really work.

I think that was Where The Red Fern Grows, wasn't it. I remember it also. It said put something shiny in there and the coins curiosity won't let him let it go.

Sounds like fun! There will be 4 of us going next weekend to my family's ranch in South Texas. We have a ton of work to do but hog and predators will be on the menu.

Where exactly? Summer work trips to South Texas suck, but predator and varmint control is always a good time. I'll be going down next weekend as well to do the same.

BP we have heard you shouldn't eat pigs killed in the summer because of worms, what are your thoughts on that?

I can vouch for those traps as well. You might get an occasional possum, but you can decimate a coon population

there is a ole cypress log down at the river by my house that we call the coon log.

my papa and his pa bored the holes in the 1920s and used it up until the 80s.

it def. works

yall are passing up some good eating.

Best advice, get the meat out of the hog quickly in summer months and then put on ice quickly. process it down and freeze it and make sure to cook to internal meat temp of 160
