It's up there for sure. I really appreciated it. I saw it in IMAX 3D just for the visuals alone. Otherwise, I see my movies in Regal theaters thanks to something like this.

I think that's part of what made him a better bad guy. It was just a very patient, very serious voice that never really got loud or out of control. It was kinda like a pissed off Dad that quietly grabs your arm and wispers in your ear that he's gonna beat your butt if you don't straighten up. It scares the hell out of you because you know he means it.

Well you have to be in order to tempt playboy Kirk into monogamy.

I think there were deliberate deeper meanings to that articulation.
He is constantly speaking as if to a child, which would fit perfectly with ST lore of Augument personality.

This exactly. He looked down on the normies so he had to slow down and speak at speed they could comprehend, much like I did when my kids were toddlers.

In regard to earlier post
I thought that in WOK during the war with khan and his people the federation agreed to let khan and his people leave and start over on another planet only to deceive them and maroon them and this is why he and his followers were so pissed in WOK.
Its been awhile since I watched WOK maybe I'm wrong.

In the TV show episode Space Seed, the Enterprise finds his crew and revives Khan.
This is his first exposure to the Federation. He went into space 70 years before humanity even developed a warp drive.
This and that occurs, and Kirk gives Khan a alternative chance than pay the price for what he has done: to be marooned on a harsh but very survivable world. Kahn agrees to the terms, interested in the challenge.
However, shortly after being left, a nearby planet explodes leaving the ecosystem of the planet pretty much gone and the planet barely survivable, resulting in the death of the majority of the crew and his wife. Hence the vendetta against Kirk specifically.
In this movie, while they would have come to regret it hugely in the future, I don't think Khan would have harmed Carol, Kirk, or the Enterprise if Kirk hadn't ordered his stunning.
One thing that set Khan apart as a *warlord* on earth is that while he was ruthless, he was *not* homicidal. He was incredibly harsh but only fair. He won't hestitate to kill you but he won't just kill you on a lark.
However, that betrayal only "confirmed" to Khan that Kirk was not to be trusted, just like the rest of Starfleet

Oh, and by the way, for those of you that don't like the complete conversion of Star Trek to a mindless, action-oriented, soulless shell of TOS, without any of the elements that made TOS, the characters from TOS and the TOS films special, you'll hate it.
They spent every bit as much time and focus on the characters developing personally and developing the dynamic with each other as they did in any of the original movies.
Where in WOH, Kirk's theme was aging/mortality, here the theme was humility/responsibility.
For you to make that statement you either didn't see the movie you are judging, or you are completely blinded by fanboyism and your reaction to the first.

Why in G-d's name would I watch a sequel to a movie I completely detested? What kind of masochist would do something like that?
I'm put in the awkward position of having to root against the franchise so they'll STOP making these hybrid Lost/Star Wars/Transformers movies with the Star Trek brand. However, they never will. At least I have the TOS episodes - they never fail (except Spock's Brain - that was almost as bad as that G-dawful, terrible 2009 J.J. Abrams Star Trek film).

Hey, you missed the point.
I didn't say you should.
And I didn't say you would like it even if you did.
I just said it is incredibly stupid to stroll in here and offer a critique of the film that you haven't seen.
Especially THAT one, as I don't really feel it applies.

My "fans" are telling me I will hate it. They're referencing me in the threads. I restate my general objections to what Abrams has done. I stand by them.
The first movie was worse than a tepid effort - it was an affront to me, from a character development level. And it was direction/writing (except maybe Pine, who is just terrible) because the actors playing Spock and McCoy really appeared to be trying.
But whatever - it had "great" special effects (albeit pretty fake looking, like most CGI driven films today.)

You've just got to ignore it. As the sun rises, he will will rage against this personal "affront" to his beloved franchise.

Why in god's name would you have an opinion about a movie YOU DIDNT SEE. Ace old buddy. You are a hater. Like many wild eyed fanboys before you who nitpick things to death just because they can.
Hell I can go episode by episode of TOS, you know the series we all worship, and pick it apart.
Sit back and be entertained and try to enjoy life once in a while.

Saw it last night with my boy. I really liked it. It was one of those movies where I didn't feel robbed, or mislead, so its up there in my book. I'm not as big a movie guy as the people in this thread, but for me, it had great entertainment value.

I'm a Star Trek fan so I'll just point out one telling difference between the first movies and the reboots.
When Spock died in WOK I was horribly upset. Maybe it was because I was younger. However, that scene still gets me.
When Kirk "died" in this latest iteration I found myself (to my own surprise) saying ,"meh, thy could probably have additional movies without Kirk".
TIFWIW

I agree. I knew Kirk would be brought back to life via Khan's blood. That's why the death scene in this film had no effect on me.

My reaction was when Khan gave that black officer his blood to save his daughters life that Kirk would die and they would revive him using Khan's blood. So I wasn't devastated when he died, but got a little teary when Kirk said he was scared.
I sometimes hate when I can see something coming that 99% of the audience won't.
