IMDB
I came across this yesterday, had no idea they were doing another one. Its got a pretty impressive cast.
Any idea which novel this will be based off of?

I still really want them to follow through on making Without Remorse.
It features John Clark instead of Jack Ryan, but it is an amazing book.
He singlehandedly destroys a drug ring just because they killed his girl.

If I had to guess what book, it's a very loose adaptation of Debt of Honor, with the economy angle

Debt of honor is where he becomes VP and later president. That's a pretty damn big story change.
Clancy is one of my favorite authors. I've read every one of his books up until the most recent. His work has noticeably declined. I found an article that said this will be a departure from the Clancy stories. Why? Clancys early stuff is fantastic reading and easily adaptable to post Cold War.

I know, but that's also the one where the Japanese Business men attacked the stock exchange.

I love Red October. It differs from the book, but in ways that to me make movie sense. Some things that happen in the book, such as the British carrier ASW group, I dont have issue with changing.
Clear and Present Danger was significantly different, but still a solid movie. Patriot Games wasn't great. The book is one of Clancy's best.
The Sum of All Fears is a horrible bastardization of a movie whose main antagonists were changed as to not offend islamic folks. They also completely change Ryan's age and position.
I wish they'd do Without Remorse and Rainbow Six. Rainbow is one of my favorite Clancy novels, although I don't know how well tree hugger terrorists would play to the liberals in Hollywood.

It looks to be a movie loosley based on a couple of books.
LINK
The film is tentatively titled Moscow – for, well, obvious reasons – and will be the first Jack Ryan flick not based directly off one of Tom Clancy’s novels. The screenplay is being written by Adam Cozen (who is working from a previous draft by Hossein Amini) and will incorporate certain character details and plot elements from the original Jack Ryan books into what sounds like a slightly altered version of Dubai, a script written by Cozen back in 2007, which also revolved around an American citizen out to stop a terrorist plan to devastate the U.S. economy.

I've never really felt Rainbow Six would make a great movie. I think the games do a better job of illustrating the team.

This
Would make a bad arse movie. Nothing complicated. Just a former SEAL pissed off about his girl getting killed and goes on the mother of all killing sprees.
Makes Jack Baeur look like a pussy.

The looser the better. Clancy's a shitty writer.

I think that Red Storm Rising fits best into the context of today's society. It is not a Jack Ryan movie but the story line would fit into a modern scene.

wasn't that the one about war with russia in Europe? How would that fit into the modern scene?

From Wikipedia
quote:
Islamic terrorists from Azerbaijan destroy a Soviet oil-production facility at Nizhnevartovsk, Russia, crippling the USSR's oil production and threatening to wreck the nation's economy. Contemplating concessions to the West to survive the crisis, the Politburo instead decides to seize the oil fields in the Persian Gulf by military force.
It has a mix of islamic terrorism which Russia is already dealing with and they seize fields in the Persian Gulf (which has recent history). It has situations where friendly countries decline to get involved (emulating recent years) and then there is a coup detat which emulates the change in power in many countries just in the last 5 years.
I think the storyline is a compelling one. I didn't like the ending that much but it can easily be dramatized.
