The Dolphins made a non-refundable $4.8 million payment to Miami-Dade County to cover the costs of an election that would have happened on May 14. The election was blocked by the failure of Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford to act on a bill that would have authorized the election.
I wonder how much Ross will spend funding the campaign of Will Weatherford's next opponent.

Dolphins got hosed.
They knew the money was nonrefundable and ran the risk of not being acted on.
Don't see how they got "hosed"

Hosed in the process, not this. Weatherford denying the people of Miami the right to choose for themselves to attempt to further his own career. Stupid.
Ross knew there was a risk it wouldn't happen. Didn't work out for him, but like someone said, not a huge deal for him.

Weatherford promised them he would take it to a vote and then reneged. That's pretty much a hosing.

That's what the Dolphins say, he says he never made a promise.

The tie has now been broken.
Others who witnessed the interaction between the Dolphins and Weatherford claim the promise was made.
“I was in the room with Mike Dee and Steve Ross and did hear what they heard,” South Florida Super Bowl bid committee chairman Rodney Barreto tells Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. “And yes, I’m disappointed. I’m disappointed that the people of Dade County were not given the opportunity to vote and that’s a huge disappointment.”
Others, per Salguero, heard the conversations, including Jeffrey Soffer, who owns the company that owns the Fountainbleu Hotel.

It's funny when we want a public vote on things. In Minnesota the NFL and Vikings were deadset against allowing a public vote. Couldn't trust people without a detailed knowledge of the situation to make such a critical decision.
Now it's how dare they not allow the citizens to decide for themselves.

Oh yeah they were unbiased and trustworthy.
Even if he said it, pretty stupid of them to trust a politicians word on a promise made behind closed doors.

And here we go...

The commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell, has played down speculation linking the Miami Dolphins with a possible move to Los Angeles.
Florida politicians last week rejected the Dolphins' appeal for taxpayers to partially meet the $350m cost of redeveloping their Sun Life stadium.
Los Angeles is seeking an NFL franchise for the first time since the mid-1990s, when the Rams and Raiders moved away.
But Goodell said: "We want to see the Dolphins stay in Miami."
Last September, Los Angeles City Council approved plans for the construction of a $1.2bn stadium in downtown Los Angeles.
But it will only be built once a team commits to playing in it.

Yeah, it would be stupid to believe that the florida speaker of the house would put something to a vote if he gave you his word in front of witnesses that he would. Those guys are dumb.

Apparently it was dumb to trust him.
Scorpions sting and politicians lie to benefit themselves. Just bc they promise to behave themselves don't act surprised when you get stung.

Total BS. Dude promised a vote if Ross took the steps he took.
Personally, I think Miami-Dade should have to refund the money to the Fins. They essentially stole it. Then go to Tallahasse and whips some arse or whatever they need to do.
