outside of him my post still stands, the approach by the two teams is completely different. The fact city is 2nd in spending in the premier league era and have not even spent the whole time in the premier league is telling.

Young
ashley young? he was alread an established star and wasn't young. he was cheaper b/c villa couldn't keep him. he still wasn't that cheap (£15M-£20M)

Jones
phil jones? he cost $16M

who actually player, city doesn't do this and depends on big name expensive players.
until last year, they were building a team from mediocrity. of course they have to make up
are you insinuating that city and man u were on the same talent-level when the shieks took over? otherwise why even make the argument?
look at their recent transfers
rodwell. 21 y/0 for $12M
nastasic. 20 y/o for $16M
garcia. 25 y/0 for $15.8M
those look like the signings you're referencing

what is so wrong about spending money to build a team quickly?
Posted on 5/13/13 at 9:25 pm to WarSlamEagle
Yea and £15m for Zaha certainly isn't cheap.

Good to hear a sensible City fan's take on this.
Dude deserved another year, plain and simple.

Sir Alex should troll the United fans by taking the City job.

I feel ambivalent. In a lot of ways I feel like it was rash to fire him a year after a title, but then i think about the way we won it. I mean it wasn't like we had it on lock down. We choked in the final stretch and hand 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to win the title. It was one of the most exhilarating times of my life to watch that game, but the whole season was not as magical as one might think.
This year we took steps back, but like others have said a lot of players didn't perform as well particularly silva, nasri, yaya, and even kompany at times. rodwell also caught the injury bug like RVP had for his entire career before this year and sinclair couldn't see the field. maicon was a joke of a transfer.
After last year, it became pretty clear that competing in Europe would be the goal. This made two years in a row we got throttled in the group stage albeit by good teams. That's not acceptable for the EPL champion. Ultimately, I kind of saw the change coming when the balotelli project went down the tubes. mancini was never a players' manager as he had issues with bellamy, nasri, lescott, tevez etc throughout his tenure. When he started to call out individual players it became somewhat apparent that he had lost the dressing room. A lot easier to offload a manager than a squad.
In fairness to mancini he performed a tough job admirably. The squad the hughes put together aside from kompany and tevez was pretty much shite. I mean robinho. Come on. Barry? He offloaded what he could, got the most he could out of some middle of the road talent(zabaleta and barry), won an FA cup and a league cup, had the best defense in the league for two consecutive seasons, etc, but his tactics and crazy substitution patterns pretty much showed that he wasn't going to be the guy to take us to the next level. Will we perform better with someone else at the helm? I have no idea, but this ownership group doesn't tolerate mediocrity.
