I think it was a good move, especially considering the other managerial changes at the top of the table.

Mancini isn't tactically strong, and he certainly doesn't foster strong relationships with his players. One of the reasons Mourinho is so successful is because of the type of relationship he establishes with his players.

I think the firing was justified in all honesty.

Do you think he'd still have his job if City would have won Saturday?

Fair enough.

I guess my thought process behind this is Mancini helped lead your team to its first EPL title in a long time (although, as Puff said, it wasn't on lock and there was a choke towards the end). I just don't know if a managerial change now is going to help City win the title next season, if that's their goal. While the other two major title contenders are making switches, a little continuity would be a bonus even after a trophyless season IMO.

I don't know, I think he should've gotten one more year to at least make a deeper run in Europe and get closer to the league title.

I can see why City made the move with their lofty goals and cash flow, I just don't think it was a great decision.

He isn't a good enough manager for them IMO.

He hasn't really done anything overly substantial at City. He won the league after an epic collapse from Manchester United, and barely beat Stoke to win the FA Cup.

That aside, he is poor tactically. His experimental formations earlier in the season were hysterical. He didn't even compete for the title this season. He has managed the squad poorly, something that cannot be understated. He lost to Wigan in uninspiring fashion. His European results have been simply embarrassing. 3-1 to Ajax? Just not good enough.

I think the difference between Man U and Man City that he was trying to make is Man U spreads around the wealth better and on younger players on the rise. City prefers to spend it on well established older players which sometimes backfires.

I thought the firing was ridiculous until I heard more about what was going on behind the scenes.
quote:

Was not just City’s relatively disappointing league season that left chief executive Ferran Soriano and sporting director Txiki Begiristain convinced they needed a change.

The pair — who weren’t at the club when Mancini led City to Premier League glory a year ago today — have been alarmed by the Italian's deteriorating relationship with players and staff at all levels.

He has spent much of this campaign arguing privately and publicly with Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany and Samir Nasri. Mancini was even photographed grappling with Mario Balotelli on the training ground in the weeks before the striker was sold to AC Milan.

The City manager has also argued behind the scenes with executive staff. His habit of complaining in press conferences that the board let him down on transfers last summer has also ruffled feathers.

Mancini, for his part, has always been oblivious to how his behaviour away from the field was leading him into troubled waters. Late on Saturday at Wembley, he was still complaining that he was not being treated well.

and again you prove my point. there are fans from teams across the league having a legitimate, productive conversation on this topic. you on the other hand are making each one of your posts more annoying than the last.

the more this point is emphasized, the more justifiable the firing becomes.

when i told my wife that he'd been fired, her response was "good, he seems like an a-hole."

Is this a regular thing over there or was it one time that the chant refers to?

If it's one time it better not be re: a Tuesday night Capital One Cup tie against Ipswich Town or something.

get your panties out of wod, i agreed with you saying he shouldn't be canned but the fundamental difference in city and other clubs is pretty big.

City fans should be ecstatic about how far they have come in 5 years since the take over with the first title in a generation. b/c before they were basically like Birmingham city. But the club needs to be realistic about who they are.

Ive added productive conversation along with some banter get over it

its happened more than once, it happened during a European night back in 2011. Literally the whole upper deck on one side was empty.

As a City fan, I thought this was crazy a week ago, but I've come around. RM spent the whole year complaining that the summer signings weren't good enough and rarely got tactics or subs right in big matches this year. He knew the expectations were high when he took the job. I wish him luck at Monaco, PSG, Napoli or wherever he ends up.
It will be interesting to see if any players back him like Bellamy did for Hughes. My guess is he won't be missed by anyone.

He was too Italian for his own good. It was embarassing to see the way he carried himself on the bench when things weren't going well during a match. He failed because he was a terrible leader. Players don't respect a coach who constantly whines about everything to everyone.

He offloaded what he could, got the most he could out of some middle of the road talent(zabaleta and barry), won an FA cup and a league cup, had the best defense in the league for two consecutive seasons, etc, but his tactics and crazy substitution patterns pretty much showed that he wasn't going to be the guy to take us to the next level. Will we perform better with someone else at the helm? I have no idea, but this ownership group doesn't tolerate mediocrity.

Fair assessment. He wasn't a disaster but he wasn't great. It just wasn't really a good fit IMO. On the surface it can appear absurd they fired him but what would another year do? Piss off more players? More mind-numbing decisions during big matches?

He might not have done anything to get sacked, but he didn't really do anything to warrant another year either.

My favorite Mancini moments were the ones where he insisted on playing a 3-5-2 or some variation of with 3 in the back and it basically ALWAYS backfiring on him.

Mancini wasn't ever going to lead them to European glory. He sucked in Europe when he was at Inter, and he sucked at Man City. He was a massive step up from Mark Hughes, who was a fricking idiot on the transfer market.
