Is it worth it for guys to come out early only to go undrafted?

I've been wondering this and I'm on the fence.
On one hand, even if you sign as an undrafted free agent, your still making more than the zero dollars your getting in college. I know family circumstances have a lot to do with that a majority of the time, and I don't blame those guys one bit.
But lets take Chris Faulk for example. For a guy who was assumed to be if not a first round pick, a definite high rounder by most before the injury. He sits out the year but then declares knowing his stock has dropped. I remember most people saying at the highest he might go 3rd to 5th round only for him to go undrafted when the time came.
Do you think people like him regret coming out? I get their making money regardless, but someone like Faulk literally lost millions Bc he wanted to leave despite sitting out an entire year. To me, especially with the slotted paydays depending on where you go, unless I knew I was going in top 5 rounds at the latest, I sure wouldn't declare.

He's also taking the chance of being passed up on the depth chart coming back. La'el Collins is good.

It is a lottery. In Faulk's case he didn't want to risk getting injured again so he tried to take the money and went undrafted. It happens.

I understand you don't know exactly where you're going, but it's not a true "lottery." I think most players expecting to get drafted have an idea of where their gonna go. It might be off by a couple of rounds especially for later round guys, but for someone like Faulk, that seems like he should have had a better idea

When I said lottery I meant by how different the money is in each round. My fault

Faulk likely did have an idea that he was slotted as a 3rd-4th round pick if his knee rehab went well and he had a chance to prove that at LSU pro day and/or individual workouts for teams. Unfortunately, his rehab did not go well. It may be because it was an unusually bad injury/tough recovery, he is a slow healer, or because he did not work hard enough at the rehab. I imagine that NFL teams simply assume it is the latter.
For players that know they will not be eligible the following season, they basically have to go out. Those that really hate school or do not like being tested for drug use over the offseason (because they had positive tests in season), it is probably best that they come out as well, even if undrafted.
The big loser this season was clearly Faulk. I hope he gets healthy and has a productive career.

Depends on multiple factors:
Depth
Position
Talent in next years draft.

Faulk was probably thinking he would rehab with NFL Trainers and Med Staff instead of LSU while getting paid to be on the PUP list. That would be, of course, if he was drafted. as a UFA there's no guarantee he even makes a roster.
