I've met a couple of these guys and seems like it should be pretty authentic, and not staged bullshite.

I had posted a link when they were recruiting for this show, and sent in a recommendation who wasn't selected.

We took eight of the toughest outdoorsmen in Alaska and actually did something that was true to the nature of National Geographic," Seavey said. "Anybody who appreciates the outdoors is going to enjoy the show."
In each episode, the eight participants are taken by plane or helicopter to a different part of Alaska. They must find their way to a pre-arranged landing zone within three days, fighting the harshest elements the state puts in their way, from bears, mountains and raging rivers to guiding their way along a glacier. Spoiler alert: It's not easy.
In the first episode, titled "Arctic Hell," the men are dropped off in the Brooks Range, in northern Alaska above the Arctic Circle, and must make their way almost 50 miles on foot to Takahula Lake.
The men break off into three teams, with brothers Dallas and Tryell Seavey choosing to take a barren ridgeline to the lake. Mountain guide Willi Prittie, musher Brent Sass and explorer Tyler Johnson decide to travel the high mountain route only to find wolves blocking part of their path.

Ill watch it but I have my reservations about any "reality" show.

The premise is real. Problem is the time constraints are a bit narrow, so survival certainly is a stretch. It's more endurance than survival.

It sounds like an Amazing Race extreme edition (didn't watch the show so I may be far off on that analogy).
As long as its not like Survivor, it will remain on my DVR list till I get to watch a few episodes.

Three days. Who did the filming? How did they plan this out? Not trying to be a dick but nothing on TV is real anymore. Your friends maybe can do this but I dont believe a production crew can hack that kind of pace.

Yeah, I saw the trailers for this show when watching Deadleist Catch, the only reality show I watch. Glad you reminded me it comes on tonight, I wanted to check it out.

GoPros and helicopters. May not be film crews with each survivor.

Same way production crews have been filming nature shows for decades.
First episode is in the Arrigetch Peaks in the Brooks Range. Any production crew that can spend three days there has my respect.

No doubt. But remember the guy that was running around with that idiot that liked to drink his own pee, ended up getting hurt and then we found out that they were faking the show when cameras caught them staying at five star hotels when they aere supposed to be filming. I hope its real, I really do because im tired of the crap that passes for TV these days.

For most of these outdoor shows, they don't use the interns for their camera crews. Most of them (depending on the show) have extensive experience in the things they are filming. A lot of times it's guys who do the stuff who also find they have a passion for filmmaking and get contracted out by the studios. It's not like there's producers out there. Sometimes there are but sometimes it's just a camera man with some strategically placed go pros.

Never know. They are going to some very legit areas. I have no idea as to the quality of the program though except what I've been told. One episode was done locally, probably the last one, I believe. Production isn't complete on it yet.

I'm enjoying it so far. Pretty standard survival type show, but so far you're getting to see 3 different tactics.

Doesn't come on here for another three hours.

Oh yeah. That whole time difference and all.
Won't post any spoilers.

I don't like the time deadline either I wish they had to stay longer to have survive off the land. 3 days without eating is hard but not impossible. 5 days would have forced them to find food.
Posted on 5/12/13 at 9:55 pm to offshoretrash
I have a feeling it will get much more difficult.

Yeah, I think one of the legs is on the Juneau Icefield, and there is no food there. 3 days without food is very doable but makes it a little more difficult when you are expending energy.
From what I have heard from folks involved it's actually more endurance than it is survival.
