What are some pick up basketball rules you think are dumb?

The one I think is the most dumb is if you call a foul and the shot goes in, the shot doesn't count. I get the reasoning for it, but it doesn't stop people from calling a foul on any retarde shot they throw up which is the rules intent

I like this rule. It isn't really enforced when I play though. Guys yell "and one" for almost every contested shot when I play pickup.

Calling your own fouls gets so dumb, you always have that guy calling pussy shite the whole game. I never call on ball fouls even though I get fouled 90% of the time bringing the ball coming up, and this guy calls me for contact after coming down after a layup,

I generally agree. The only time I'll cal a foul is if I just got murdered, but guys usually call those on themselves anyway

Looking back on it, always playing make it take it really negatively effected my game when I was younger IMO. I could play with anyone in streetball. Then in a real full court game, I could hardly ever get that same streaky mojo you get from make it take it. If I ever have a son, I will try and make him concentrate on full court ball if he gets into basketball.

I agree. I never call a foul unless a bone is poking out or something. I don't want to be the reason somebody gets butthurt and calls a ticky-tack, bullshite foul later. I just absorb the contact as best as my 145 lbs can and get back to the game.

Pick up games are like Monopoly, it never ends until everyone is screaming at each other and almost having a physical confrontation
