Or any other type of grip tape?

I find my Ruger SR9c needs a little extra grip. Going to give Talons a shot unless someone has another type they prefer better/cheaper. But they are only $15.

I have them on my carry guns.

The Decal Grips are just as good -- maybe a hair better.

I used the Decal Grips for years -- began using the Talons about two years ago. Both are excellent.

eta: I use the rubber-surfaced grips, not the sandpaper versions.

Never held a grip with the rubber ones. Held a pistol with the sandpaper type and liked it. Never shot with one on.

+1

Talon Grips on my Kahr CM9 made it SO much more shootable. Recoil isn't bad shooting it or anything, but the checkering on the grip dug into my hand after every shot. I added the grips and they still stick fine and are still very comfortable. It was a great buy at only about $15 total.

Absolutely.

The only thing you want to make sure of with your Ruger is that the backstrap is in the position you desire before you stick the grips on. I have the backstrap flipped to the bumped side and it fits great. Just be sure you have it that way before you stick them on.

But they're definitely worth it for the price.

I haven't tried that yet. May try it out.

I did remove the mag disconnect

Nice! A lot of guys don't go to that step but it's definitely worth it.

PS. After removing the disconnect, you can dry fire it without the magazine inserted. I have dry fired mine SO many times practicing with it and it still works fine.

Have you seen my SR9c Update video? I changed out the sights and I love the new ones.

Yes I like those sights you put on. May look into a upgrade later on.

bapple , would it be worth it to change the trigger in my LC9?
Stock trigger sucks and thinking about getting a RTK trigger for it

I don't have an LC9 so I'm not sure of aftermarket kits out there.

But the main thing to make sure of a defensive pistol (not just a range toy) is reliability. Make sure that trigger kit has a lot of positive reviews and no reliability problems. Sometimes the trigger pull becomes so light that the firing pin won't set off primers. Just do your research well.

Isn't Hogue the actual grip that gets replaced. Talon is just grip tape precut to fit the pistol grip.

Hogue makes slip-on rubber grips for semi autos, and full grips for revolvers.

Talon Grips stick on to your existing grips and don't slide off because they're adhesive.

Although they look good on the internet, Hogue grips for handguns are virtually a universal "no no" in the defensive training world.

Bapple and I are on different sides of the fence on the idea of modifying a self defense gun's trigger. We've both given thought to the subject, but feel differently. He's comfortable w/ his approach and I'm comfortable w/ mine. I admit that my professional training and experiences probably have an effect on my thinking. Having said that, I'm NOT in favor of changing/altering the stock trigger on a self defense handgun. If I don't like the trigger, I'm either getting a different gun w/ an acceptable trigger or keeping the same gun and training w/ it more to become proficient w/ it and it's stock trigger. I just see a modified triggr as an unnecessary problem to contend w/ if I ever end up in civil/criminal court because I had to defend myself w/ the gun. I would think this would be especially true w/ a DOA gun like the LC9 where the long trigger pull acts as a safety.

Massad Ayoob's thoughts on same topic, short version:
quote:

The two things I would strongly advise against doing and have strongly advised against doing, would be a trigger pull lighter than the factory recommends, and removal or de-activation of a safety device.

Thanks for input. I've got to read up on that trigger. Not sure if it makes it lighter or just eliminates the take up and makes it smoother
