I was just lightly skimming this thread and saw this . . . God almighty I agree. At least when it comes to rock n roll.
I remember a discussion on this board with somebody about the leads in Gimme Shelter and Sympathy for the Devil. My point was that they were two of the greatest solos on record. The other guy said he liked them but they weren't great guitar playing. frick PEOPLE MISS THE GODDAMNED POINT!!!

Lindsey Buckingham's solo on "Go Your Own Way" is a good example of this. Simple but effective.

However, recall that most of the attention was due to the music video, directed by Stephen Johnson. 2. Big Boi is more talented than Andre 3000
3. The most original hip hop music of the aughts can be found for free on B.o.B's pre-first-album mixtapes.
(3a. Though Kanye's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was very original as well.)
4. Azealia Banks deserves way more love than she's getting.
(4a. Also, I would have sex with her.)
5. Kelly Rowland is sexier than Beyonce.
6. R&B is even more unlistenable than modern country.

The guy played the guitar upside fricking down. That's like a normal right handed pitcher learning how to throw a 95 mph fastball left handed.
Now, that being said...I don't think his band was all that great.
Also: to throw my 2 cents in there: whoever is responsible for taking good bands and turning their music to shite can DIAF. I don't know if it's the label or the managers or what. This is the problem with music today if you ask me. Prime examples are Gary Clark Jr. and Black Keys.
With Gary, listen to his EP, and then listen to his new album...garbage.
With The Black Keys: listen to magic potion, and then listen to brothers. Garbage.
Completely different styles of music.
