re: UDFA Signing thread.

add Eric Stephens

Eric Stephens has not signed a NFL free agent deal but he will get an opportunity to work out with the New Orleans Saints at its mini-camp.

The former Texas Tech running back was once thought of as a middle round draft pick and was well on his way to breaking the 1,000-yard rushing mark in 2011. Unfortunately, he sustained an ACL and MCL tear in his left knee and returned to the roster about a step behind his former self in 2012.

He rushed for 480 yards and five touchdowns as a senior and demonstrated a lot of improvement from game one to the bowl game win against Minnesota.

invite-

Former Tigers wide receiver Emory Blake accepted invites to mini camps with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week and New Orleans Saints the following week, according to his agent.

Blake led Auburn with 50 receptions for 789 yards with three touchdowns last season. The 6-foot-2, 193-pound Austin, Texas, native’s speed was a concern, as he clocked an unofficial 4.62 40 time at Pro Day.

Former UA Wildcats fullback Taimi Tutogi will get his shot at the NFL - in fact, he may get a couple of shots.

Tutogi has been invited to rookie mini-camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which begins Friday. He'll have three days to prove himself and earn a rookie free-agent contract. But if it doesn't work out, he'll head to rookie camp with the New Orleans Saints the next weekend.

He also received an invite from the New York Jets, but it's scheduled on the same weekend as New Orleans' camp. The Chula Vista, Calif., native said he picked the Saints over the Jets because it was a better fit.
LINK

Tutogi is a versatile performer who lined up at tailback, fullback, H-back, and tight end on offense – while also getting work at defensive end when the defense needs to get to the quarterback. His coaches at Chula Vista High School in California could have told you he’d meet that need, as he was his conference’s offensive player of the year while also racking up 11 sacks as a senior end.

Two former ULM players who started their careers together as Warhawks will now try to make the next leap in football together.
Receiver Brent Leonard decided this week that he will participate in the New Orleans Saints minicamp next weekend, instead of his previous invitation to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Saints invited fewer receivers than the Cowboys, prompting Leonard's decision, and there he will meet back up with tight end Keavon Milton, who signed a free agency deal this past Sunday following the NFL draft.
"We are both excited about it," Leonard said. "It's nice that I will have someone that I know there with me. He (Milton) has always been a guy I respected. We have a long road ahead of us, though."
Both players grew up in Texas and played their prep careers at high schools separated by just about 90 miles.
From there, the duo came to ULM in the fall of 2008 - Milton as a scholarship player and Leonard as a walk-on.
After redshirting their first season, the two offensive weapons gradually became a bigger part of the game plan, and their respect for each other is evident.
Milton said he learned that Leonard was coming to the Saints camp while at dinner earlier this week, and he made quite the scene.
"The first thing I did was yell with excitement," Milton said. "Everybody was looking at me like I was crazy, but I didn't care because all I'm thinking about is that he will be there with me."
Milton said prior to signing a free agent contract, he had heard from the San Francisco 49ers and the Cowboys, as well.
"I was just sitting there waiting for my phone to ring, and different teams were calling and saying that they had picks in late rounds and that they were pushing to get me," Milton said. "But I understand why things played out the way they did. I'm happy with the results of things."
The Saints drafted five players this past weekend, including one receiver - Kenny Stills from Oklahoma. Milton is one of two tight ends that signed a free agency contract with the team and will wear No. 83. New Orleans also signed Josh Hill from Idaho State.
Milton is still in the Monroe area and working at Hertz as a car detailer. He will leave Thursday for New Orleans.
"This whole process is a blessing from the man above, and it looks like he has more in store for us," Milton said. "Coming from the same school and the possibility of playing on the same team would be great."

If getting to training camp will have to ask him if he wants to detail my car if he gets cut

Former Greenwich High football player Will McHale has been invited to a New Orleans Saints mini-camp from May 10-12 after completing his career at Yale

McHale, a linebacker at Yale, finished with 78 tackles while starting every game for the Bulldogs this past season. He finished his career with 211 tackles.
A three-year starter, McHale earned All-Ivy League honors on the field in 2011 and academic All-Ivy accolades as a senior.
The Yale coaches named him as the Hammer Award winner and the Robert Gardner Anderson Award recipient as a junior and senior respectively.
The former Cardinal finished his career with three interceptions and five sacks.
McHale played for Greenwich's 2006 and 2007 FCIAC and Class LL championship teams and entered Yale with an impressive pedigree -- his late grandfather, John, and his father, John, were both linebackers at Notre Dame.

A pair of former Toledo Rockets have been invited to NFL rookie mini-camps. Safety Jermaine Robinson will report to the New Orleans Saints' mini-camp on May 3-5
Robinson, a 6-3, 188-pound native of Pittsburgh, PA, was a four-year starter for the Rockets at safety, earning first-team All-MAC honors as a senior. He had 229 tackles and eight interceptions in his career. He was co-leader in the MAC with four picks in 2012. If Robinson makes the Saints, he will join former Rocket wide receiver Lance Moore in New Orleans.

Former LSU placekicker Josh Jasper will try out with the New Orleans Saints next week at a four-day rookie mini-camp beginning May 9. Jasper is the most accurate placekicker in LSU history with an 83.9 success rate.

"I'm excited about trying out with them; I'm happier to be here than somewhere else," said Jasper, who made a school-record 28 of 34 field goals and led the Tigers with 120 points as a senior in 2010. "I've been training non-stop and keeping in shape waiting for this opportunity.

"I'm pretty sure they are bringing in a couple of other kickers. But I don't know who they are."

Is there a way the admins can give you access to maintenance the thread? I've been busy and haven't had the chance to do it. Or perhaps you can just copy the info from the OP with the new info and start another thread. I'd request this one to be deleted.

np on the thread, not too many interested in these fringe players anyway

UDFA signings rated by Gil Brandt

3) New Orleans Saints
Key signees: Ryan Griffin, QB, Tulane; Kevin Reddick, LB, North Carolina; Chase Thomas, LB, Stanford.

Anyone who read my piece on no-name prospects to watch knows how I feel about Griffin. He's very smart and has a quick release, which will be good for what they do in New Orleans. Reddick and Thomas, meanwhile, were both in my final Hot 100 + 25 list , with Reddick landing at No. 91 and Thomas slotting in at No. 93. Thomas isn't exceptionally fast, but he does have an outstanding ability to key and diagnose.

Bump for the ones that actually made it:

Khiry Robinson

Glenn Foster

Tim Lelito

Kevin Reddick

Rod Sweeting

Josh Hill

This thread went 8 pages at the time with no mention of Khiry Robinson's signing. When did he actually sign?

Also, considering our desperation for LB's, it's funny how many of us quickly latched on to Chase Thomas as the sure-bet UDFA to make the team.
