Just cleaned and marinaded the birds and shoulder with Texas BBQ Seasoning Rub from Krogers! Using Hickory Wood for Smoke. Mixutre of Coca Cola, Buffalo Trace, Allegro, and Vinegar in roasting pans for the moisture under the meat on the grill. About to fire the Akorn and give updates thought the day. Wish me luck.

Looks good. I'd tear into the Buffalo Trace while that luscious meat is smoking!

Oh, seriously thinking of drinking the whole bottle after the wife got pissy

Put the birds in foil with platter in beer fridge out in garage to place on the smoker later. Lump is going good and I am going to cook shoulder and birds at 250/1.5-2 hours per pound...it is a 6.6 lb shoulder.

Do you have the heat deflector? I used a pizza pan until I got one last month. Recommend getting it if you plan to do a lot of slow cooking. Let us know how it turns out.

That sounds like a great idea...do you do this every hour or a certain time frame?

Temp is going great right at 250....not messing with it until I put the birds on in about 2-3 hours.

Just put the birds in my Brinkmann Smoker over 45 minutes ago...decided not to put them in the Akorn, it is a steady 250 and did not to disturb the shoulder.
