I like em both about the same. I've probably shot about 200rnds of each with no issues. PMC seems to be more popular though.

Pmc bronze and xtac both are fine bullets. Never had a problem with either. I have a bunch of independence, but have never shot any.

I just jumped on that independence from midway so it better be worth a shite

PMC
I might be wrong, but I think PMC was one of the first companies to load the Barnes X-bullet in factory ammo. I remember when I was just starting hunting my dad got me a box of the X-bullets in .308 and I took 20 animals (deer, hogs, coyotes) with the 20 shells in that box, over the space of several years. Ever since then I have always liked PMC ammo.

I'll keep the 5.56 over the .223. Have watched a few YouTube vids from nutnfancy and the PMC isn't the most accurate ammo he shoots.

Oh I didn't think you were speaking ill of it. I've never shot Independence before so I just made the comment

I shoot a lot of Independence 9mm brass for target rounds. They were on sale for $8.99/50 last year so I ordered a bunch. Never a problem. Just wasn't sure the comparison to PMC

Gimme about 200 rounds of each to shoot this weekend. I'll post you a very thorough review come Sunday. Will make your decision much easier imo.

Assuming you're referring to FMJ in both brands --not much difference. Both are plenty good for plinking. Both should cycle fine in any AR.
For "social work," neither is loaded to NATO velocities, and I'm sure neither meets NATO specs for bullet construction (obviously if either met both of these criteria, it would be sold as 5.56/.223 ammo). So I wouldn't count on consistent fragmentation, especially from a short barrel, or at ranges beyond 100 yards.
But I'll accept any you want to discard.
