They have him on 1st team because he has seniority and they are giving him the chance to show them he can be the starter. And it doesn't sound like he has done enough. They know we have the young talent at LB to move Barrow to M and put Kwon at strong. But they gave Welter the opportunity to show them he can be the guy. Doesn't sound like he did that
Yea, he was around the ball a lot, but he's a MLB. You're always near the ball at MLB. Looked like he had trouble against the back up OL and a walk on C. And I saw him get dragged a few yards multiple times.
Plus, I think our LB unit would be better wit Barrow at the MLB and Kwon at strong side.

Barrow is the starting weak side LB and T Jones is the starting strong side LB.
So, do you want to move all three LBs to new positions or just move Barrow to MLB and Kwon to weakside?
