Has anyone been deceived by the "Based On A True Story" Ruse?

Just watched "Bad arse". Based on a two minute YouTube bus video. Movie quickly wandered from that premise - and became a comic vendetta film. I felt cheated.
Should the Filmmakers be held accountable for their their subterfuge?

How, exactly?

"Based on" is such a broad term

For veering away from the "Story", and embellishing the facts, with fiction.

I like to do my research after seeing films based on "true events."
I have seen many people boast sequences in films based on "true events" only to look foolish when none of that ever happened.
2008's The Strangers is a great example of Hollywood stretching the "based on true events" label in order to grab your attention.

I didn't ask why.

Argo was "based on" a true story. Took a lot Iiberty with facts. A good movie, not a historical reinactment

Good answer. Research, sometimes, does little to alleviate a film's BS.

Well, if you're not going to take this conversation seriously...

Sorry. Perhaps a Refund of Ticket?

Why are they allowed to take Cinematic Liberties, that bears no resemblance to the Truth. Shouldn't there be a "Disclaimer" ("An allusion to Truth".)

Because they are not documentaries, they are fictional stories meant for entertainment.

Allegedly, "Based On A True Story".

I like the completely ridiculous Based on a True Story claims, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And I especially love the off the wall "quotes", like
-Eleanor Roosevelt
quote:
"America is all about speed. Hot, nasty, bad-arse speed."
-Eleanor Roosevelt

You are really proving your sig quote.
Do you not understand that "Based" does not mean the absolute truth?
Based on Actual Events does not equal true story.

That gives them license to inundate the Film with Lies? Why even lead with that "Untruth"?
