Songs that you associate with historic events or times in history...

What songs whether by memories of hearing them around the time of historic events or otherwise do you associate with specific events or specific times. Watching the documentary "The 80s the decade that made us" got me to thinking. Just watched the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Challenger explosion on that show. From that documentary I was reminded of songs that were popular at the time of those 2 historical events. I always associate The Scorpions "Wind of Change" with the fall of the Berlin Wall (mostly due to their video and the song's lyrics) and for some reason the first song I think of regarding the Challlenger explosion is A- Ha's "The Sun Always Shines on TV" which I guess was because that song was on the charts at the time. I know there are a ton of Vietnam songs that immediately bring protest songs to mind. What are some other songs that come to mind for y'all?

Any lynyrd skynyrd song makes me think of the movie dazed and confused. So does foghat.
Oh yeah and aerosmith.

So much different music I associate with times other than specific events... I just heard the Magnetic Fields the other day and I always think of mid 90s NYC when I hear them (first time I saw them live)...
For some reason events and music are usually related to bad memories for me...

Obviously, "Four Dead in Ohio" reminds us all of Kent St in May of 72.
"Born in the USA" reminds me of returning veterans from the catastrophe that was our involvement in Vietnam.
"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" of the Civil War.
"Brown Eyed Women and Red Grenadine" of prohibition.

The band Jurassic Five always makes me think about the time I got crabs.
I was over at this chick's house and her friend's boyfriend was big into Jurassic Five and was there playing them. I banged the chick, and then I roll into work on monday morning and I can't stop scratching around my pubes. My office-mate at the time was like "dude, that bitch gave you crabs."
He was right. I had to go to Wal-Mart and get the kit. Not my proudest moment at a checkout line.

When I was a teen, I spent lots of time in the summers at the local Y pool. They played the radio. If I hear songs from back then, I can smell clorine. McCartney's Let 'Em In is one of those.

David Bowie's "Heroes" for the falling of the Berlin Wall
It's cheesy, but U2-Greenday-Trombone Shorty-Rebirth Brass Band version of "The Saints are Coming" associates with the reopening of the Superdome and the resurgence of not only the Saints but the city of New Orleans. I will never forget watching it live in the Dome that fateful Monday night.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald makes me think of the industrial era of the US in the early to mid 1900's even though it sank in 1975.

When I was a kid, I spent my summers at the pool at a place called the Dixie Swim Club in Stonewall, La.
They played Leavin' Louisiana by the Oak Ridge Boys and Friday Night Blues by John Conlee all the time. When I hear those songs, they take me back to that time in the late 70's/early 80's.
