Who came out the closest with their taxes this year?

My total refund this year was $18 which is by far the best I've ever done.
Did anybody here get under a dollar?

So you withheld or paid taxes through the year and the result is an $18 refund? Why? Why not keep that cash through the year, make it work for you, then give the government your rent?

Withheld from one job and didn't for my other one and came out to an $18 total refund.
I was always told coming out close to neutral was the goal.

I guess the ideal would be to come out owing slightly under $1000.00, but I'd rather wind up at 0.

Well, $18 is pretty damn close to neutral, my refund was $ -6,000K after all of my estimated tax payments. And as I wrote that check, I died a little inside.

Owed the fed $1190 and owed a refund of $970 from the state. Not bad if I do say so myself.

I came out with the largest refund I've ever had.
Completely forgot to adjust withholdings after my wife stopped working...in 2011

I owed the Feds $8. Got $59 back from the state.

Maybe I'm not understanding...I always have the least amount withheld and I invest my $$$ or even put it into a savings/MMF so that I can earn something on it then give the government their protection money.

I think coming in under $1000 owed is ideal. Unfortunately I miscalculated and had an underpayment penalty this year.

I don't know if I overpaid, but I was a student for at least 5 months this past year, so that probably helped with credits.
Had a refund of about $1,755, hopefully will cut that down to under $400-$500 this year.

Owed $16 federal and received $455 from the state. I need to readjust my paycheck a little for next year to get it closer to $0 but I was happy.

I've been spending too much time on the Poli Board.
When I first read your thread's topic I thought it said, "Who is coming out of the closet with your taxes this year?"
My first thought was, "Damn! I didn't know the IRS was asking questions like THAT now!"
To answer your question, I missed by quite a bit in 2012. Over paid by almost $10K.

Owed the bastards 1300K. Got back 400 from Louisiana.
Im happy though, at least I didn't give them an interest free loan for a year.

I just came here to brag about doing a good job with not giving the government free loan money
Eta: and I learned that getting huge refunds was not a good thing from the money board

I owed the Fed 200. The State refunded me 200. It's a wash.

I was under $200 refund from both State and Feds, although the Feds have not paid up, yet.
I think just under $1000 owed is ideal, as well, but anytime I work OT, I lose a lot of the power to control my withholding rate - they withhold at the highest rate on that. O-T and a second job make it tough for me, although a couple years back I owed just over $1200

Me too. I thought maybe domestic partners were getting tax breaks. I was about to dump the ol' lady and marry one of my huntin' buddies.

I looked for a deeper meaning, maybe liberals/progressives flipping conservative because their taxes are just too d*mned high!
