Carson Baranik was headed to ULL last I read

ETA: so ULL next year, a year at Miami Dade CC

quote:

Former LSU P Carson Baranik (6-3,205) will join the UL program as a mid-term transfer according to sources cloes to the UL program tonight. The Parkway HS graduate was suspended from the LSU team last Feb. after an OUI arrest.

Baranik, a right-hander, was drafted in the 41st round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft by the Cincinnati Reds but decided to enroll at LSU.

He was an all-district and all-city selection as a senior, posting a 4-1 record with three complete games, a 1.70 ERA in 37 innings and 57 strikeouts.

Baranik received his release from LSU and will play this spring at Miami Dade Junior College where he is project as the #1 starter.

Sewald looked average. I can understand why he's been held out thus far this season.

Negatiger

Love all the pitching coaches here. He only has 1 pitch? Lol

With his length, if they build his lower body strength and keep his mechanics straightened out, he can add velo real quick.

He can definitely add some weight, but that guy is really strong and explosive. He has a vertical just under 35 inches

I take it you thought he looked like an outstanding SEC caliber pitcher?

Woah...I don't think anybody was bashing the guy and only 1 person said he only throws 1 pitch. I think(hope) most of us know he has more than 1 pitch. It was his first outing for a guy we're all excited to see progress and it was a brief and honest observation of that outing. He has work to do...that's no secret. Most freshman do.

he said "i can see why he has been held out thus far".

by all accounts he has been held out for health reasons. Not because he is isn't good enough.

2 IP, to close out a game, just looking to regain his form. He threw 18 pitches. I dont think its a big enough sample size to determine anything.

I was the one who said he needs to develop a second pitch, but I don't think I, nor anyone else in this thread, "bashed" him... He threw 18 pitches and at least 17 of them were fastballs. The one in question didn't break like it looked like it was suppose to.

I think many people agree that he has a ton of potential and the movement on his 2 seam fastball was very nice. Besides that, it was his first game of college. I think you went a little over the top on this one.

But your post history is a large enough sample size to tell you're a butthead. Everyone was having a nice discussion until you jumped in.

I think you are overreacting. If they are working on technique and fundamentals, it could have adversely affected his secondary pitches in the short term. If that were the case, it wouldn't be incorrect to say that his only effective pitch is a fastball right now.

LSU's decision to bring him along slowly kind of supports that theory. Clearly, the kid has tons of upside.

Has potential but he was getting tagged. He had nice movement on his fastball but I didn't see any good secondary pitches. Defense bailed him out with great plays.

If that 1 pitch is a fastball that can touch 94, I'd still take a chance on him.

I think Lester is simply defending a Rummel grad. Must take that into account.

I am overeacting, but based on 18 pitches you say he has no second pitch?

when they are clearly working him back in a no pressure situation at the end of a meaningless game?

fastball fastball fastball. see how he feels tomorrow.

LSURussian- "it's clear why he hasn't pictched".....

ok, according to Alan Dunn, he hadn't been pitching because of health reasons.

I don't think im overreacting. Just get the facts straight here and realize what they were trying to do.

Maybe y'all's post werent meant to be insulting, but they sure can be taken that way considering the facts surrounding the situation.

In that case Paul Mainieri lied to the entire Coaches Committee three weeks ago when he told us Sewald was having control problems, especially with his curve. He could not throw the deuce for a strike consistently. He said as long as Sewald didn't show improvement he would be held out.

Are you calling Mainieri a liar?
