There was a thread last week about Sewald losing his redshirt.

Since he pitched last night, I wanted some opinions from people who were there on how he looked. TIA

I thought his two-seam fastball had a lot of good movement.

I noticed that as well... that thing had some nice run on it. He seems like he'll have a pretty high ceiling if he can get his control down. He pitched pretty good last night

Watched on TV. Hard to gauge based on a couple of innings vs. Southern.

TV said he was 6'6" 195 lbs. Needs to add some muscle and should have some good long-term potential.

For first time in LSU uniform looked just as good as Devall and Newman.
Will probably see some more time midweek.
The tailing action was impressive but did not look like he had much secondary stuff, which without that, good luck in the SEC.
He needs development time, not sure why he burned the redshirt or why Butler hasn't pitched anymore either but that's the way things go now.

He will need a secondary pitch before he is fully ready for SEC type play, but I think he will be able to get a ton of ground balls with that 2seam movement. I like getting him some mid-week PT. I think his ceiling is very high.

Redshirts don't really matter in college baseball anymore

It would still be nice if he gets more than two innings this year. Taylor Butler also.

I could see him possibly coming in for an inning of an important game. I felt pretty good about his stuff. Could possibly be a good 1 batter matchup pitcher or something like that.

I missed most of last night including him pitching, but he sounds an awful lot like Glenn reinventing himself with the 2-seam.

I just rewatched his pitching. He threw only fastballs. I think he added a 4 seam ball also, but nothing offspeed. He was able to keep it down low and got a few batters to beat it into the ground like you would expect.

He missed his spots a few times but when he missed he didn't leave it in the zone. He definitely needs to find another pitch before he can be really effective, but I like his 2 seam fastball as his main pitch. If he could add a changeup or slider I think either would be very complimentary to his fastball.

I recall seeing one curveball not break and miss high. Maybe he just threw one.

I may have missed it. There was one in the dirt I thought could have been offspeed but I decided it wasnt.

I know he missed high on a fastball one time on purpose. I may have missed it.

With his length, if they build his lower body strength and keep his mechanics straightened out, he can add velo real quick.

Sewald looked average. I can understand why he's been held out thus far this season.

My thoughts as well.

He needs another year of mechanics and weight training, but could be promising for the future based on potential alone.

I like the idea of getting him in when we have big leads. He threw with good accuracy and has a very high ceiling. Any experience he can gain this year would be great.
