We've all come to accept that this is going to happen.

The ASOIAF Crackpot crew will gladly finish the series on our own.

I would be mad but not surprise, most readers are expecting that to happen.

The thought was the show would speed up his writing.

Been discussed many times. Everyone just accepts it as reality.

I certainly wouldn't be happy. But to be honest, I wouldn't be all that upset.

I've been reading reading Dreamsongs which is a compilation of some of Martin's short stories interspersed with some short snippets of autobiographical stuff. And it's given me a bit of a different take on the question, kind of from his POV. He seems to have a bit of an unhappy time of a large part of his life. He also seems to have a tendency to incorporate his experiences/feelings from his life into his work which I think might make for some good speculation but that's for another thread.

If Martin wants to enjoy these times now I can't really hold it against him too much. Besides which, I am enjoying the quality of the stuff more than the actual twists and turns of the plot (that's why all the rending and gnashing of teeth over spoilers sometimes seems silly to me). I think I'd rather get say one more well written book then two poor or mediocre ones if it came down to that.

he said it in that discussion with the cast at the emmy's (the 1.5 hour one). He said that he is too possessive of his characters, hates fan fiction, yada yada

The Bearded Glacier shall live on....it is known.

What is dead may never die!!!

But seriously, he will be dead in the next 7-10 years.
