La Sportsman Magazine Observation

I keep all the back issues of La Sportsman magazine and go back and review them periodically. I especially do this when going to a new lake or area fishing. I'll pull the issues from several years back for the month my trip is planned and read the fishing reports to gather info on areas and patterns to fish. What I've noticed is that the reports are usually just reprinted with a word or two, if anything, changed from one year to the next. My question for the OB is, Am I wrong to expect a recent up to date fishing report in each issue and do you think it's ethical for them to just reprint last year's reports in a NEW issue. ?

In short, yes.

They do the same thing with the articles. It's why I canceled my subscription years ago. That and their forum is simply a rolling advertisement for charter captains, who seemingly limit out on EVERY trip.

Years ago the magazine was really something of value. It has turned in to a "copy and paste" version of an everyday advertisement campaign. When sales start falling off they will start putting bikini clad women on the cover to try and sale to a new demographic.

it's not like they're the only ones that do this, bassmaster magazine does the same thing as well...but they'll usually tell u it's reprinted

A lot of outdoor mags do this. Turkey and Turkey Hunting was notorious for reprinting stories from a few years past. I pretty much abandoned all mags when the actual content made up only 25% of the magazine and the other 75% was committed to advertising or articles which plug products the entire time(more advertising)...

hmmm, you mean to tell me that there's not a dedicated cadre of sportfishermen eager to share all their secret knowledge about good fishing spots and what is working each month to the general public, members of which will be bogarting their favorite hole the next time they go fishing?!?! And that the only people who willingly share this info are guides looking to garner customers?!?! Color me shocked. Please don't tell me that Humberto Fontava is full of sh*t too?
